Clariant presents its Innovation Universe at
EuCheMS Congress 2012

August 26
Clariant presents its’ four-pillar Innovation Universe with an interactive booth concept and expert presentations at the 4th Congress of the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS), August 26-30 in Prague, Czech Republic.

The EuCheMS Congress is a unique opportunity for some 150,000 chemists in academia, industry and government from 46 member societies in over 35 countries across Europe to discuss recent developments in research. The event, with important speakers including Nobel Prize winners, promotes co-operation in Europe between non-profit-making scientific and technical societies in the field of chemistry and molecular sciences and attracts talents and experts in the field.

Megatrends such as environmental protection, energy efficiency and resource management increasingly shape the future of our ever more dynamic, globalized planet. In order to continue to offer customers solutions and products that enable them to benefit from these trends, Clariant has built its Innovation Universe on the four pillars of Chemistry, Biotechnology, Catalysis and Process Development. Clariant will present its Innovation Universe to experts and talents in chemistry innovation at this singular event.

In Clariant’s Innovation Universe, chemistry translates customer needs into innovative products such as Exolit, a patented, non-halogenated flame retardant designed specifically for engineering plastics in the electrical and electronics industry that provides standard engineering plastics with the fire protection qualities of expensive, high-performance plastics. Another example of our Innovation Universe is the work done at our Biotechnology Research Centre on the Sunliquid bioengineering process, which transforms agricultural waste (such as grain or corn stalks) into high-quality cellulose ethanol that may be employed as a fuel or chemical raw material. The EnviCat N2O enables the extraction of nearly all of the climatically harmful nitrous oxide and other oxides of nitrogen from industrial plant exhaust gases.

Clariant process development develops innovative production processes for chemicals that are easier and safer to operate, reduce the amount of raw materials used and waste generated, while optimizing energy demand and simplifying maintenance. For example, for an existing plant producing a precursor for a crop protecting agent with a four-serial reactor system that is short in capacity and poor in yield, we develop an innovative reactor system concept with only one stirred column reactor.

Clariant will contribute to this important European event through a series of lectures on the following topics:

  • The Cellulosic Sugar Platform: Sustainable Biofuels and Green Chemicals (U Kettling)
  • Precious metal doped zeolites in environmental catalysis (F Klose)
  • The new Clariant: Innovation in Specialty Chemicals, Materials and Biotechnology (J Benkhoff)
  • These presentations will highlight some of the key R&D work done globally within Clariant’s Innovation Universe and explore how this work impacts on solution and product development.
