CIC Topping-out Event: The Future at Our Fingertips

31 August - Another step towards the future
Clariant celebrated the finished construction shell of the Clariant Innovation Center in Höchst, Germany with a traditional topping-out ceremony.

True to an old artisan tradition, a carpenter crushed his glass to the speech delivered at the topping-out ceremony of the Clariant Innovation Center (CIC) and hailed both the building owners and contractors involved in the project. Before this, Managing Director of Clariant in Germany Dr. Ulrich Ott and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Martin Vollmer had welcomed some 350 guests to the construction site in Höchst, among them future “residents”, building & construction companies and architects.

Ott thanked all tradesmen, tradeswomen, and planners for their great performance: “Today we are celebrating a further milestone following the groundbreaking ceremony in February.” He also emphasized the symbolic value of the CIC for the new Clariant: “The building stands for progress, openness and transparency. Here, appreciation as the very essence of our brand can be experienced in a special way.”

The event provided a welcome opportunity for the future users to get a feel for the premises and an overview of the building progress. “We are well on time,” confirmed project leader Helmut Müller. The CIC is scheduled to open in fall 2013. Around 500 Clariant employees from Research, but also from other departments such as Intellectual Property Management, will then move into their new offices and laboratories covering a total surface area of 387,500 sq.ft.

Martin Vollmer is especially pleased about the building progress: “Soon we will be able to forge new ideas here, in one of the most advanced research centers in Europe.” Research and development are seen as fundamental to future profitable growth. He is particularly looking forward to the innovative collaboration made possible by the open architecture of the CIC: “Apart from facilitating lively communication among one another, the CIC will also add a new dimension to networking with our customers, partners, and the academic world.”
