Functional polymers play a crucial role in jobs from washing the dishes and thickening sauces to large-scale industrial processes like oil production . Their uses range from food and homecare to pharmaceuticals, heavy industry and new materials. To cover such a breadth of applications, we spare no effort in adjusting the weight, size, and shape of macromolecules to the specific needs of customers.
The trend towards greener technologies and the use of renewable resources, for example, is dominating our R&D efforts.
Although the name Clariant is not familiar on supermarket shelves, many of the products there could not have been manufactured without our additives. The more prominent of these include:
Polysulfonates, marketed under the Aristoflex® label, which are central to a new class of cosmetic gels and creams with a fresh, rich skinfeel. Variants from the same product group (Hostagel®) are used as dishwashing additives or for hygienic articles. The starting point for these products was the development in the 1970s of the Hostmer® and Hostadrill® formulations used in oil and gas exploration and recovery. This is a perfect example of a single technology platform being adapted to many, often very different, applications.
TexCare® polyesters are a significant component of modern laundry detergents that prevent textiles from turning grey after a few washing cycles. They also make surfactants more efficient and help to reduce the overall amount of chemicals used in detergents. And that is a small step towards making our environment safer and cleaner.
Clariant not only enhances textile care products but also plays an indispensable role in the entire textile chain. Textile manufacture may be one of the oldest crafts known to man, but our efforts to reduce its environmental effects and increase customers' comfort are a major part of our business. |
