Building Blocks
 |
With a chemical synthesis tool-box at our disposal and worldwide leadership in glyoxal and glyoxylic acids, we supply a complete range of C2 chemistry-based building blocks. Their broad reactivity makes them the ideal chemicals for a wide variety of applications: pharmaceuticals and agrochemical intermediates, flavors and fragrances, dyestuffs and fine chemicals. In addition, these simple, versatile molecules – the smallest of their kind – help to generate highly sophisticated optical active intermediates such as chiral glyoxylic esters or diamines.
Our bifunctional reactive synthons, which eliminate the use of halogenated raw materials like chloro- or bromo-acetaldehyde dimethylacetals, are one example of our more eco-friendly alternatives to many of the solutions used in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries.
To round off our range with non-reactive molecules, we recently added two solvents known as Highsolv® E99 and Highsolv® P99, respectively. Colorless, with low viscosity, they offer yield-improving and performance-enhanced properties that make them a viable replacement for the toxic and flammable solvents widely used in organic synthesis such as THF, dichloromethane, toluene, and NMP. They are highly versatile and have high flash and boiling points that ensure useful operating temperatures for a wide range of chemical processes.
Our results demonstrated the improved efficiency of both solvents in several types of reactions when compared with traditional ones. These include better kinetics for C-alkylation reaction, better yields for Grignard reaction and simplified product isolation for C-alkylation and Grignard reactions. Highsolv® P99 and Highsolv® E99 are finding wide acceptance as reaction process solvents, emphasizing the need for performance-improving, lower toxic solvents in organic synthesis, be it for pharmaceutical applications or other sectors with stringent requirements such as fragrances. |
