Singapore, March 7, 2016 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, is going to take part in the 2nd Cocoa Revolution Conference due to take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on March 9th-11th, 2016. With well established presence in the cargo desiccant business, Clariant will introduce to the Cocoa market in Asia its leading line of Container Dri®II container dessicants, which have already enjoyed remarkable success in the seafreight transportation of coffee beans, and various other food and agricultural products.

Cocoa beans are primarily grown in Africa, Indonesia and South America, and are typically transported by sea in large shipping containers to major markets in Europe, Asia and North America. To protect the delicate beans against damage from mold and mildew during long voyages, effective container desiccants are essential.

Container Dri II desiccants Clariant's desiccant products, including Container Dri II, provide versatile protection against damaging humidity and moisture during intermodal transport. Available in various packaging configurations, the industry-leading products aggressively absorb up to three times their weight in moisture, and trap it as a thick gel that will not spill or leak. Container Dri II as well as other desiccant products are being produced at Clariant manufacturing sites throughout Asia.

In addition to performance benefits, Container Dri II desiccant products also meet new specifications from the Federation of Cocoa Commerce Ltd. (FCC) for protection of cocoa bean shipments in containers. Container Dri II not only meets the recommendation of a 65 percent or higher loading, it exceeds this requirement. Due to ease of use and outstanding absorption properties Container Dri II is the right choice for cocoa bean shippers.

Container Dri II was also recently awarded with the EcoTain® distinction which consists of a screening against 36 criteria in three sustainability dimensions: social, environmental and economic. Container Dri II delivered positive benefits in all areas.

"Under the newly-updated FCC guidelines, our Container Dri II desiccants meet the preferred recommendations of calcium chloride desiccant bags over the traditional silica gel desiccants, which are now considered less effective for moisture protection of cocoa beans. Due to its exceptional absorption properties, Container Dri II meets or surpasses the new recommendations with even smaller amount of desiccant," said Menghwee Toh, Head of Sales for Clariant CDP Asia, BL Absorbents, BU Functional Minerals. Container Dri II is globally available and is currently produced in Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey, United States and the newly opened desiccant manufacturing plant in Zhengjiang, China.
