Clariant supports Uni Stuttgart Formula Student Team with sunliquid® cellulosic ethanol

Clariant’s sunliquid cellulosic ethanol is now used as a fuel in racing cars for the first time. The Formula student team of the University Stuttgart is one of the most successful teams in this competition and holds several world records. The car runs on E85 – which will be produced with sunliquid cellulosic ethanol for the 2017 series for the first time. The team chose the fuel due to its excellent performance as a result of the higher knock resistance and evaporation enthalpy. The ethanol is produced at Clariant’s sunliquid pre-commercial plant in Straubing, Germany.

Innovation is key in this competition: every year a new vehicle is designed and built by the team of students, based on innovative ideas and the experience from past years. The competition consist of 3 static and 5 dynamic disciplines. The overall winner is the team with the best package consisting of engineering design, performance, financing and marketing. The world ranking list is currently lead by the Uni Stuttgart team. Clariant is proud to join the long list of sponsors and supporters of the team that already includes high profile companies like Mercedes-Benz, Bosch, Porsche and Opel.
