Clariant supports Indonesia’s educators

In 2007, Clariant Indonesia established a scholarship program to support the local community in Tangerang, Indonesia. The collaboration has been further expanded in recent years to include funding of training workshops aimed at enabling local teachers to further improve their skills.

Through its partnership with the Indonesian philanthropic organization Putera Sampoerna Foundation, Clariant is helping to deliver a series of developmental programs (Professional Development Program-PDP) that help teachers modernize their pedagogy and thereby support students in reaching their full potential. The programs allow teachers, superintendents and administrators to upgrade their knowledge and skillset through training based on standards established by the Indonesian Department of Education. Knowledge and skillsets promoted include, for example, new learning paradigms, classroom management, learning strategies and lesson planning.

The decision to organize this program in conjunction with the Foundation was taken because it dovetails with Clariant’s Responsible Care® and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives of helping to develop the company’s local neighborhood. As a bonus, by training teachers, our impact can extend further than simply to those who attend our seminars. One teacher educates between 40 and 50 students. Not only can the community benefit from Clariant’s engagement, but also the company itself. Clariant is anchored deeply in the area and that is favorable for the reputation of the company and the recruitment of talent. Other Clariant projects at the school include the building of bike shelters and green spaces, as well as a donation of computers.

It is a continuous effort to steer the company’s activities and contribute positively to the global sustainable development goals set out by the United Nations.
