Construction completion in Podari, Romania

On October 15, 2021, Clariant celebrates the construction completion of its new sunliquid® cellulosic ethanol plant in Podari, Dolj County, Romania.

We are very pleased to present our internationally visible home for the first commercial-scale sunliquid® plant, which is a flagship project for advanced biofuels production in Europe and a significant step in positioning Romania as a pioneer in fuel innovation.

While the completion of Clariant's first commercial-scale plant for the production of cellulosic ethanol based on the sunliquid® technology is proceeding according to plan, the Covid 19-situation in Romania has deteriorated dramatically over the last weeks.  

Clariant therefore decided to postpone the official opening ceremony of its sunliquid® cellulosic ethanol plant in Podari, Romania, which was scheduled for October 15th.  

More details will be provided closer to the opening event, postponed to spring 2022. Stay tuned.
