  • Polyurethane (PUR)

    • Exolit® AP 422

Exolit AP 422 is a fine-particle ammonium polyphosphate (phase II) produced by a special method. The product is largely insoluble in water and completely insoluble in organic solvents. It is colourless, non-hygroscopic and non-flammable. Mehr

    • Exolit® AP 750

Exolit AP 750 is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on ammonium polyphosphate as main component, which develops its effectiveness through phosphorus/nitrogen synergism. In contrast to similar competitive material, it shows high processing stability. Exolit AP 750 differs in its mode of action from non phosphorus-based flame retardants (e. g. brominated, chlorinated or mineral FRs like ATH) by achieving its effect through intumescence. Material containing Exolit AP 750 will foam on exposure to flame. The carbon-rich foam layer so formed will protect the polymer and in many cases the substrate below through its heat-insulating effect, reduces further oxygen access and prevents dripping in case of a thermoplastic based formulation. Beyond the primary effects on fire behavior such as reduction of flame propagation rate, rate of heat release, dripping behavior, residual lengths of test specimens after flame tests etc., positive secondary fire effects such as low smoke density, no release of corrosive off-gases, lower formation of toxic smoke gases are of great interest. Mehr

    • Exolit® AP 760

Exolit AP 760 is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on ammonium polyphosphate, which develops its effectiveness through phosphorus / nitrogen synergism. When incorporated into thermoplastics, it exhibits high processing stability. Exolit AP 760 differs in its mode of action from chlorine- or bromine-containing flame retardants by achieving its effect through intumescence. The thermoplastic material foams on exposure to flame. The carbon foam layer so formed protects the polymer through its heat-insulating effect, reduces further oxygen access and prevents dripping of the thermoplastic. Mehr

    • Exolit® AP 765 (TP)

Exolit AP 765 is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on phosphorus and nitrogen synergism. The product achieves its flame retardant effect through intumescence. The thermoplastic material foams and crosslinks on exposure to flame and forms a stable char at the surface acting as a barrier. The protective layer provides a heat-insulation effect, reduces oxygen access and prevents dripping of molten polymer. Mehr

    • Exolit® AP 766 (TP)

Exolit AP 766 is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on phosphorus and nitrogen synergism. Mehr

    • Exolit® OP 550

Clariant’s Exolit OP 550 flame retardant can be used for flexible polyurethane foams. It is a medium-viscosity liquid and it is based on a non-halogenated phosphorus polyol with a functionality of approx. 2. The product is a reactive flame retardant that can be chemically reacted into the polymeric matrix, preventing unwanted migration from the foam. Therefore, very low fogging values can be achieved which meet the most stringent emission standards for PU flexible foams in the automotive industry. For more details see our Video about Exolit® OP 550 and 560. Mehr

    • Exolit® RP 6520

Exolit RP 6520, is a brown-red paste, and is a thixotropic blend of castor oil with stabilised, microencapsulated red phosphorus. The paste form allows safe and simple handling and thus processing is made easier. The thixotropic nature of this concentrate hinders the sedimentation process and simplifies the re-homogenisation after long storage periods. Mehr

    • Red Phosphorus PU 6580

Red Phosphorus PU 6580 is brown-red blend of tris(2-chloro-isopropyl)phosphate (TCPP, as a carrier) with stabilised, microencapsulated red phosphorus. The paste form allows a safe and simple handling of the red phosphorus and avoids the hazards associated when working with red phosphorus powders. The thixotropic nature of this concentrate hinders the sedimentation process and simplifies rehomogenization of the paste. As a precaution we recommend to homogenize the paste before use e.g. by agitating. Mehr

Exolit AP 740 is a white free flowing powder. It is a non-halogenated additive flame retardant based on ammonium polyphosphate which develops its effectiveness through phosphorus/nitrogen synergism. Exolit AP 740 differs in its mode of action from chlorine or bromine containing flame retardants by achieving its effect through intumescence. The flame retarded material foams on exposure to flame. RoHS 2.1 - the Story Continues

The EU Directive on the Restriction of certain Hazardous Substances in Electric and Electronic Equipment (RoHS, 2002/95/EC) was originally published in 2003. It banned the heavy metals cadmium, lead, chromium(VI), mercury as well as the brominated flame retardants PBBs and PBDEs in E&E equipment. There is a legislative mandate that the directive is revised regularly, and after long discussions in particular on any additions to the list of restricted substances, a “re-cast” was published as 2011/65/EU. Although there were strong proponents of further bans on halogenated flame retardants, no new substance bans (Annex II) were put in place Mehr

Cutting Edge Flame Retardants for Thin Parts

Miniaturization is the creation of ever-smaller scales for mechanical, optical, and electronic products and devices. Miniaturization is a continuing trend in the production of such devices. Items which take up less space are more desired than items which are bigger and bulkier because they are easier to carry, easier to store, and much more convenient to use. Mehr
