From electrical and electronic components to the foams and fabrics of modern mobility, work and leisure: Our organophosphorus Exolit® OP flame retardants give non-halogenated fire resistance to polymer materials that combines high performance with exceptional sustainability.

Tailored solutions for thermoplastics – plus reactive and green OP-tions

Our Exolit® OP product line comprises halogen-free phosphorus containing polyols as well as organic phosphinates. The phosphinates and synergistic blends of our Exolit® OP line can provide fire resistance to a wide range of polymers used in E&E, transportation, fibers and other segments without affecting the high performance of polyamides and polyesters in connectors, switches and other electrical parts, and impart fine-powdered safety to printed electronics and PET fibers. Our phosphorus-based polyols (Exolit® OP 550 and 560) are reactive solutions for polyurethane foams that become chemically bound to the foam and do not emit the flame retardant or leach out.

Several grades carry our sustainability label EcoTain® and are available as earth-friendly »Terra« versions based on renewable carbon. These drop-in alternatives provide the same OP-timum performance – and go on doing so even after multiple rounds of recycling.

ADVANCED FIRE PROTECTION WITH OUR EXOLIT® OP LINE 

  • Exolit® OP 1230 Terra

    Exolit OP 1230 Terra is a white, fine-grained powder based on an organic phosphinate. The product is non-hygroscopic and it is insoluble in water and organic solvents. Clariant’s Exolit OP flame retardants for polyamides are all based on aluminum diethyl-phosphinate (= DEPAL). The pure substance DEPAL is sold as Exolit OP 1230 and in combination with synergists as Exolit OP 13xx & Exolit OP 14xx types. Exolit OP 1230 is the first non-halogenated flame retardant which can withstand the demanding requirements of this high end segment of engineering plastics.Exolit OP 1230 Terra is chemicially and from its composition equivalent to Exolit OP 1230, but comes with a mass balance certificate as for its production, renewable based Ethylene was sourced.Therefore we assume that for Exolit OP Terra products no additional performance testing and qualification compared to the standard grade are necessary.   • Exolit® OP 1400 Terra

    Exolit OP 1400 Terra is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on organic phosphinates for reinforced polyamide 6, polyamide 66 and high temperature polyamides. The product achieves its flame retardant effect through a combined gas phase and condensed phase mode of action. Exolit OP 1400 Terra is chemically and from its composition equivalent to Exolit OP 1400, but comes with a mass balance certificate as for its production, renewable based Ethylene was sourced. Therefore we assume that for Exolit OP Terra products no additional performance testing and qualification compared to the standard grade are necessary.   • Exolit® OP 560

    Clariant’s Exolit OP 560 is a flame retardant specifically designed for flexible polyurethane foams. As a reactive flame retardant, it can be chemically reacted into the PU matrix, preventing unwanted migration from the material. Therefore, Exolit OP 560 allows meeting the most stringent VOC requirements of the automotive industry and has shown best-in-class performance in demanding low-emission applications. Exolit OP 560 is an easily-to-handle low-viscosity liquid, with a functionality of approx. 2.Exolit OP 560 has been confirmed as »an alternative anticipated to be safer for use in upholstered polyurethane foam« by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U. S. EPA, August 2015, EPA 744-R-15-002)
