Advanced Surface Solutions
Your solution provider for high-performing waxes
Clariant is a global player in the production of waxes offering a widely diversified portfolio of synthetic and semi synthetic waxes. Our portfolio comprises bio-based rice bran waxes, montan wax based products, polyolefin and polymeric based waxes, as well as amide waxes and their micronized grades.
With our long-established expertise and focus on research and development, we are in the position to systematically develop innovative and sustainable solutions, orientated towards the demands of the markets and requirements of customers.
LATEST INNOVATIONS BASED ON RENEWABLE FEEDSTOCK
Derived from renewable feedstock, Clariant’s new Licocare® RBW Vita and Ceridust® Vita ranges deliver both high performance and sustainability for manufacturers of engineering plastics, bioplastic compounds and masterbatches, as well as for formulators of coatings, inks and different care products (e.g. shoe, car). Solutions carrying the Vita designator are based on renewable feedstock and have at least 98% RCI, Renewable Carbon Index.
The new Licocene® Terra range is a renewable feedstock version of Clariant’s famous Licocene range. The Licocene Terra portfolio is based on mass balance certified hydrocarbons and contains both waxes for plastic processing and performance polymers for hot melt adhesives. When used for adhesive applications the solutions allow bonding and debonding and improve the recyclability of post-industrial and post-consumer waste. For example, post-consumer waste carpets can be recycled cradle-to-cradle at very high material yields and significantly reduced energy.
As well as carrying the Vita and Terra designation, many solutions are certified by the prestigious Clariant EcoTain® label for products that have undergone a screening process using 36 social, environmental and economic criteria, exceed sustainability market standards and offer best in class performance.

Wax Amide
Clariant has been manufacturing waxes for decades and is a major supplier of Amide waxes.
Clariant’s Amide waxes are based on animal and vegetable resources. These lubricants are chemically established mainly on ethylene bis stearamide. These products are also available in micronized form under the tradename Ceridust®.
-
Wax Micronized
Clariant is a major supplier of micronized waxes predominantly based on own produced raw materials. Micronized waxes do have a d50 value in the range of 5 - 10µm.
A wide range of waxes can be micronized and even combined into blends to become a Ceridust® grade. Beacause of this versatility and broad range of properties, Ceridust® can be used in many applications.
-
Wax Montan
Clariant has been manufacturing waxes for decades and is a major supplier of Montan waxes.
Montan waxes are esters from montanic acids and are produced from lignite which is extracted, bleached and afterwards esterfied or saponified. Montan waxes consist of unpolar saturated straight carbon chains with a length of 28 – 32 carbon atoms.
Due to their unique chemical structure, Montan waxes can be used in a broad variety of applications.

Wax Polyethylene
Clariant has been manufacturing waxes for decades and is a major supplier of polyethylene waxes.
Clariant’s polyethylene waxes are produced via metallocene catalysed polymerisation as well as via traditional Ziegler / Natta polymerisation of ethylene. These products are also available in micronized form under the tradename Ceridust®.
The following categories are available:
Wax Polyethylene, Non Polar
Wax Polyethylene, Polar
-
Wax Polypropylene
Clariant has been manufacturing waxes for decades and is a major supplier of polypropylene waxes.
Clariant’s polypropylene waxes are based on metallocene catalysed polymerisation as well as on traditional Ziegler / Natta polymerisation of propylene. These products are also available in micronized form under the tradename Ceridust®.
The following categories are available:
Polypropylene Wax, Non Polar
Polypropylene Wax, Polar

Wax Special
Clariant has been manufacturing waxes for decades and offers also specialty products classified as
1) Hydrocarbon wax, which is a paraffin wax but with a higher drop point than classical paraffin waxes:
2) Hydrocarbon wax with melting temperature of approx. 100°C and a relative sharp melting point. It is used as additive for electrophotographic Toners.
3) Polymeric wax, which is a polar highly modified wax based on an olefinic backbone. This product is also available in micronized form under the tradename Ceridust®.
4) Branched alkane carboxylic salt:

Wax Emulsifier
Clariant has been manufacturing waxes for decades and offers two non ionogenic emulsifiers for waxes with acid numbers up to 40 mg KOH/g (e. g. Licowax® KPS and Licowax® KSL). Wax Emulsifier 2106 contains phenolethoxylates; Wax Emulsifier 4106 contains Alkylethoxylates.
