Technical wax dispersions have many different uses and accordingly vary considerably in their chemical composition.

Ionicity, solids content, wax type and dispersion type (W/O or O/W) are variable and largely depend on the type of emulsifier used. For these different applications Clariant offers beside montan based waxes a range of oxidized Polyolefin waxes. Application possibilities range from Textile, Paper, Wood, Glass and Leather, Fruit and other Agricultural Products as for Varnishes, Lacquers and Paints.

Applications & Products

  • Textile Industry

For the textile industry, a large range of polar polyolefin waxes and Montan waxes are available.

Montan waxes are used als gliding agent for warp sizing. Montan waxes and Locron® S are also used in dispersions for hydrophobing finish of fabrics. Polar polyolefin waxes are used for the production of textile softeners, sewing auxilaries and to prevent resoiling of textiles. They also serve as lubricant in sewing, stretching, and thickening of yarn for knitted and woven goods. In addition, they can be used for plastisizing artificial resins for permanent press treatment.

Clariant’ experts help customers in the selection of suitable formulations according to hardness: for instance soft formulations can enhance flexibility and have a more pronounced effect on feel; harder formulations provide better lubrications between yarn and metal, better dirt repellency and washability. Release agents: Aqueous dispersions as mold release agents for processing plastics, rubber, and ceramics and for metal die casting.

    • Licowax® E flakes

Licowax E flakes is an ester of montanic acids with multifunctional alcohols. The montanic acids contained in raw montan wax are straightchain, unbranched monocarboxylic acids with a chain length in the range of C28-C32. As a result of the long chain these montanic acids have a high thermostability and a low volatility as well as a low tendency to migration. Licowax E flakes is used as lubricant and dispersing agent in a wide variety of polymers like PVC, PS, PBT, PA, PDM, PC, TPU. Licowax E flakes is also applied in polish & care industries, such as shoe & leather care, car care. It is a hard ester wax and good paste forming properties and it is easily emulsifiable. more
