Safeway - An Efficient Way of Runway De-Icing
Clariant, one of the largest specialty chemical manufacturers worldwide, offers liquid and solid runway de- / anti-icing chemicals.
The specially designed composition of all Safeway® de-/anti-Icers ensures that the corrosion of materials used in aircraft construction is reduced to a minimum. Safeway® runway de-/ anti-Icers meet the requirement of internationally recognized Aerospace Material Specification AMS 1431 and AMS 1435 for solid and liquid de- / anti-icers, respectively. Certificates awarded by the independent Scientific Material International Inc, USA (SMI) recognize the compatibility of Clariant de- / anti-icers with various metals and polymer materials.
Commercial airports and military air bases concerned with the quality of storm water run-off and requiring a high performance de-icer can benefit from Safeway® de- / anti-icers. With increased concerns about de-icing chemicals, airport managers regard Safeway® runway de- / anti-icers as an important tool in managing environmental issues associated with storm water run-off.
Liquid Runway De-/Anti-Icers
Clariant liquid runway de-/anti-icing products are manufactured and certified according to AMS 1435 specifications.
Liquid runway de-/anti-icers are be used in combination with "classic" mechanical clearing methods to ensure safe take-offs and landings.
Clariant’s runway de-/anti-icers offer three distinct advantages: they melt ice and snow effectively, provide protection against re-freezing (holdover) and set new standards in environmental friendliness.
Clariant supplies liquid runway de-icers based on potassium acetate or potassium formate.
Solid Runway De-/Anti-Icers
Clariant solid runway de-/anti-icing products are manufactured and certified according to AMS 1431 specifications.
Solid runway de-/anti-icers are used in combination with "classic" mechanical clearing methods to ensure safe take-offs and landings.
For the most economical use of the Safeway® de-/anti-icers, apply the solid Clariant Safeway® product to the ice- or packed snow layer, in which it will develop holes. When the liquid Safeway® de-/anti-icers are then applied, the liquid has a path to the pavement surface and quickly breaks the pack prior to mechanical removal.
