Lubricity improvers for emulsion-type metalworking fluids

Our range of lubricity improvers consists mainly of specialty complex esters and polymeric esters. Further lubricating components can be found in the category of EP/AW additives and PAG-based lubricants.

In general, our complex esters are hazard label free and readily biodegradable, and offer a good stability against hydrolysis in alkaline media. Hence, they can be used as suitable components for the formulation of water miscible metalworking fluids to improve anti-wear properties.

Lubricity improvers for fully synthetic metalworking fluids

To find a good balance between lubricity and stability, our range of polyglycol-based fully synthetic lubricity improvers is the right place to look.

Clariant’s broad portfolio provides both low and high cloud point products, delivering the benefits of both sides and making its lubricity improvers adaptable to your needs:

  • A low cloud point and thus high lubricity makes working on aluminum easier and reduces wear.
  • A higher cloud point gives greater stability to MWF concentrates during storage.

Our wide selection of high-performing fully synthetic PAG lubricants allows you to find the right balance between these poles: within the recommended cloud point range of 30 to 50 °C for fully synthetic high-lubricity formulations, you can adapt storage stability and lubrication performance precisely to your needs.

  • Hostagliss A Terra

    Hostagliss A Terra is a complex ester and can be used as lubricity improver in rolling emulsions and cutting & forming fluids. Despite its high viscosity, it can be easily incorporated into concentrates for water based emulsions. The product contributes to emulsion stability and corrosion protection when neutralized with alkanolamines. Furthermore, the product is compliant with medical applications since it is free of animal sources.

  • Hostagliss L4

    Hostagliss L4 is a complex ester and used as lubricity improver and water-dispersable corrosion inhibitor for milky, semisynthetic and neat oil metalworking fluids. Furthermore it is used as synthetic base fluid for rolling emulsions. Hostagliss L4 is also listed on the “Lubricant Substance Classification list (LuSC). Thus suitable for lubricants with European Ecolabel certification.

  • Hostagliss PA 135

    Hostagliss PA 135 is a polar polymer with multiple functional groups exhibiting a high affinity to metal surfaces. Hostagliss PA135 has good lubricity and anti-wear properties and it is used as a component of non-water miscible metal working fluids such as cutting oils or deep drawing oils. Other applications are rolling emulsions, gear oils and greases.

  • Genapol RPF 1720

    Genapol RPF 1720 is specially designed to be used for fully synthetic metal working fluids and silicon ingots slicing fluid. It is resistant to water hardness, metal salts, acids and alkalis in practice-orientated concentrations. Additionally, it provides excellent wetting properties resulting in a low surface tension (34,8 mN/m in water) and a low contact angle on steel (surface tension 5% in water 34.4 mN/m, contact angle V2A steel, 5% in water 15.5°).

  • Genapol RPF 1740

    Genapol RPF 1740 is specially designed to be used for fully synthetic metal working fluids and silicon ingots slicing fluid. It is resistant to water hardness, metal salts, acids and alkalis in practice-orientated concentrations. Additionally, it provides excellent wetting properties resulting in a low surface tension (34,8 mN/m in water).

    Genapol PN 30 is a EO/PO block copolymer and used as a low foaming surfactant and lubricity improver in metal working fluids and metal cleaners. It is stable against hard water. In combination with corrosion inhibitors like Hostacor IT, Hostacor BIT or Hostacor BI, clear water soluble metal working fluids with good corrosion protecting and lubricating properties are obtained.

    Genapol B is a PO/EO/PO block polymer and used as a low foaming surfactant and lubricity improver in metal working fluids and metal cleaners. It is stable against hard water. In combination with corrosion inhibitors such as Hostacor IT, clear water soluble metalworking fluids with good lubricating and corrosion protecting properties are obtained.
