  • Reduce the buildup of wax layers in vehicle and storage tanks with Dodiwax wax anti-settling additive

    The broad variety of fuels, with which terminals are more and more confronted are a big challenge for additives in terminal use. You need broad effective wax dispersants, which are able to cover a variety of different fuel characteristics ensuring operability for the end user.

    Most of all though at terminals are products needed which have the best cold temperature handling ability in order to assure an easy and economic application by best possible performance.

    Clariant has especially designed products to fulfill these requirements, offering products specialized on low temperature handling.

    • Using Clariant DODIWAX® wax dispersants typically allows passage of modern operability tests such as sedimentation tests or LTFT by controlling the size and shape of paraffin crystals.
    • The combination of DODIWAX and DODIFLOW® often lowers MDFI dosage requirements by creating a synergistic improvement of CFPP. The redissolving of paraffin crystals is also improved.
    • The long history of Clariant allows our experienced experts help you select and design a WASA and MDFI additive system to successfully treat a wide range of diesel fuel grades.
  • Clariant lubricity improvers help extend engine life and reduce maintenance costs

    Low sulfur diesel fuels need to be treated with lubricity additive in order to meet fuel specifications. This also extends engine life by protecting distribution injection pumps as well as common rail injection systems. Clariant Lubricity Improver DODILUBE® is suitable for terminal usage and listed on the No-Harm list of BP/Aral. Low treatment rates of the low resin carboxylic acid distillate are generally sufficient to reach the typically required WSD1.4 target of less than 400 mm.​

  • Reduce the pour point of heavy fuel oils with Clariant pour point depressants

    A continuous increase in processing so called “opportunity / challenge” crude oils has not only affected the quality of refinery heavy fuel oils but also made the achievement of the specified pour point significantly more difficult.

    The use of Pour Point Depressants especially in heavy fuel oil helps to enhance the handling properties of the fuel itself. Pour Point Depressants normally have a very high viscosity, which make them difficult in terminal handling.

    Clariant has developed a microdispersed PPD, which is specially designed for the use under terminal conditions. It has the same performance as PPDs for use in refineries but due to the special technology are suitable for use at lower temperatures as is the case in terminal usage.

    Clariant pour point depressants enable customers to:

    • Treat high paraffin resids
    • Improve pipeline flexibility by allowing transportation of highly paraffinic oils 
    • Reduce heating in fuel distribution system
    • Avoid removal costs of solidified paraffin waxes
    • Reduce pumping costs
    • Upgrade value of resids / heavy fuels
  • Increase fuel stream management flexibility in the terminal environment by lowering your cloud point temperature with Clariant cloud point depressants

    Cloud Point (CP) is the temperature at which first crystallization is observed as a haze in a diesel fuel sample. Depending on the dosage rate of the additive, cloud points can be depressed by 1-5 K to provide terminals with increased flexibility in fuel stream management.

    Use in combination with CFI to achieve synergistic improvements of the pour point of the middle distillates.

  • ​Control corrosion with a package or specific corrosion inhibitors

    In order to reduce corrosion, fuels can be treated with corrosion inhibitors. Corrosion is a complex phenomenon which can be reduced through various processes such as adding a neutralizer, a protecting film forming agent or a demulsifier in order to reduce as much salt as possible from the oil.

    Clariant offers a total package of corrosion additives for your convenience. We can also deliver individual components for specific environments such as terminal applications.

  • Maintain a safe work environment and avoid costly delays created by high levels of H2S

    Heavy hydrocarbon liquids derived from “bottom-of-the-barrel” (BoB) products like marine fuel or bitumen (asphalt) are a big part of the growing safety and environmental concerns about H2S in the petroleum industry.

    Avoid health hazards, violations of local occupational health, safety regulations and public complaints from unacceptable high H2S levels with Clariant’s H2S scavengers.

    Clariant’s product range comprises H2S scavenger, which comply with the new international standard ISO 8217, effective July 1, 2012 and allow to reduce the H2

    Rapid Reaction – SCAVTREAT® reacts rapidly to allow effective injection into the system with shorter residence times.

    H2S Selective, Non-reversible Reaction – Lower treatment ratios of 1:5 to 1:10 per ppm H2S required by SCAVTREAT deliver a highly cost-effective solution.

    Effective in a Wide Range of Fuels – SCAVTREAT provides blending flexibility for fewer product rejections and shipping delays as well as reducing odor, corrosion and safety challenges.

  • Remove residual water in fuels for more efficient production and shipping ​

    Residual water in refined hydrocarbon fractions like gasoline, diesel or gas oil often appear as “haze”, even at levels less than 0.5 % w/w. Free water is typically the result of refining unit inefficiencies. The water eventually drops out, but the presence of surfactants may inhibit water droplet coalescence. These “cloudy / hazy” fuel must be allowed to settle longer, disrupting shipping schedules and increasing storage space requirements.

    Clariant DISSOLVAN® Dehazers displace surfactants at the water / oil interface that usually stabilize emulsions. A dehazer can remove water from gasoline, diesel and heating fuels to protect against corrosion and future water ingress. The functions of a dehazer are manifold:

    • Break water micro emulsions
    • Improve clarity of product
    • Enable the use of other detergents in performance oils
    • Improve water tolerance of additives
    • Unique and specially designed formulations
    • Do not contain any metals

    Dependent on the type of fuel, dehazers are treated with:

    • approximately 5 pPM of Gasoline
    • 5 – 10 pPM of Diesel

    For tank treatments slightly higher dose rates are recommended (Gasoline: 10 PPM / Diesel: 20 – 30 PPM)

    • Biofuel Additives

      Biofuels are an established part of the fuel market and need specially designed products to help fulfill specifications or meet expectations. The range of Clariant products is based on the unique challenges of biofuels, supporting the cold flow behavior of different characteristics of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) like CFPP and PP as well as sedimentation within the oil samples. Clariant products help to improve B100, meeting specifications according to European Committee for Standardization (EN) and American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM). They also help to improve the handling of high saturated fatty acid methylester based FAME by lowering the pour point of those fuels. more
