A new generation of
ORGANIC PIGMENTS
For an intense color effect of paint, its pigments must be finely and evenly dispersed. During the conventional paint manufacturing process, one of the most important steps is the dispersion of pigments. Clariant has developed a new range of organic pigments, the »Easily Dispersible Waterborne« (EDW), to simplify this process. With the EDW pigment range, Clariant provides a solution that makes the bead mill superfluous, reducing the production of pigment preparations to one single step.
Challenge
PIGMENT AGGLOMERATION REQUIRES A TIME-CONSUMING AND EXPENSIVE DISPERSION PROCESS
One of the main challenges of conventional processes is that the microscopically small pigment particles stick together like tiny magnets. To disperse them evenly in the paint, several steps like e.g. milling is required. This process is time consuming, expensive, uses up a lot of energy and needs costly technical equipment.

Solution
A NEW SERIE OF ORGANIC PIGMENTS FOR WATER-BASED PIGMENT DISPERSIONS: EDW PIGMENTS
EDW pigments have a modified surface treated with special additives to avoid clumping. They can easily be dispersed with a dissolver without the milling step in a shorter time, improving the eco footprint of paint manufacture. The processing time is shortened leading to increased production capacity while simultaneously realizing savings in electricity consumption and generation of waste water.
