    • DESICCANT BAGS - PHARMACEUTICAL APPLICATIONS

      Clariant manufactures an array of adsorbent bags, such as silica gel bags and bentonite clay bags, used to protect bulk pharmaceuticals in their final multi-count packaging as well as in-process tablets and capsules prior to bottling or blister packaging. Desiccant bags are available with silica gel (Sorb-It®), bentonite clay (Desi-Pak®) and molecular sieve (Tri-Sorb®), depending on the desired adsorption characteristics. These fills are packaged inside porous nonwoven materials that allow them to effectively adsorb moisture to maintain a dry package environment. All materials, including nonwoven substrates and inks, are US FDA compliant for direct contact with food and drugs.     • DESICCANT CANISTERS & CAPSULES

      Clariant's full line of rigid desiccant canisters and capsules lead the industry when controlled atmosphere packaging is required to control moisture, odor and other volatiles. The active packaging platform is customizable with various sorbent materials. Ideal for pharmaceutical packaging and nutritional packaging, they are available with silica gel, molecular sieve, activated carbon and specialized adsorbents. Desiccant canisters are small cylindrical containers filled with active agents that can be inserted at high rates of speed into pharmaceutical bottles and have become the gold standard of pharmaceutical desiccants. Their special design allows them to be used in standard insertion equipment and continuously fed into pharmaceutical packaging lines. Clariant offers several standard sizes ranging from ½ gram to 3 grams to address different packaging configurations. Desiccant capsules are similar to canisters, but available in a variety of sizes and formats to address special packaging conditions.       Clariant’s desiccant packets protect products in a wide range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, medical, and diagnostics. Packets are small sachets of silica gel, molecular sieve or other absorbent products aimed at protecting goods from moisture, odors and other harmful elements. Packets are available in singles or in our Continu-Strip® reels designed for automatic insertion.       Clariant's EQ-PAK packets and EQ-CAN canisters are specially engineered sorbents that maintain humidity equilibrium in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical packaging where specific relative humidity conditions are needed.     • OXY-GUARD® BARRIER BOTTLES

      Clariant specializes in protective packaging technologies, including multi-layer extrusion blow molded pharmaceutical containers. In order to inhibit the oxidation of sensitive drugs, our barrier bottles are engineered with six layers, one of which includes Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol (EVOH). Oxy-Guard® bottles effectively block oxygen ingress by a factor of 100 compared to regular bottles and also provide an excellent barrier against moisture. The six-layer structure can also incorporate a UV barrier, as well as customer-specific resins and design characteristics. Clariant works with customers to customize performance parameters, materials and bottle design. For a complete solution, Oxy-Guard bottles can be used in conjunction with PharmaKeep® oxygen absorbers which absorb the oxygen contained in the container headspace after drug filling and the small amount of oxygen that may still permeate into the container during shelf life.       PharmaKeep® is an innovative and unique line of polymer-based oxygen absorbers that are "humidity neutral." Unlike traditional iron based oxygen scavengers, PharmaKeep® requires no moisture to react.       Clariant’s rigid tubes and desiccant stoppers create an ideal package for effervescent tablets, chewables and lozenges, as well as diagnostic test strips. By using a combination of different thermoplastic polymers, our tubes and stoppers create a tight seal between stopper and tube to protect tablets from moisture ingress.     • MEVOPUR-LQ Advanced liquid color and additive concentrates for transparent pharmaceutical packaging

      Colors such as yellow, amber and red are often used in transparent packaging to protect pharmaceutical products from degradation by filtering light of specific wavelengths. Solid-based concentrates in the existing MEVOPUR range are often used, but Clariant’s LVT liquid technology offers some advantages in transparent or translucent polymers like PET. These MEVOPUR-LQ masterbatches, along with future products targeted at pharmaceutical packaging, offer regulatory declarations to US Pharmacopeia (USP) chapters <661.1> <87>, <88> and the relevant European Pharmacopeia 3.1 monograph e.g. 3.1.15 for polyester-based packaging. more
