ApplicationsExolit AP 765 was developed especially for use in polyolefins. It is suited for PP, PE, PP copolymers and PP blends for injection moulding and extrusion applications.
In PP homopolymer and copolymer, a dosage of 23 to 26 % (by wt.) Exolit AP 765 is usually sufficient to obtain the UL 94 V-0 classification at 1.6 mm together with GWFI 960°C and GWIT 800°C.
The mechanical properties of plastics are slightly altered by addition of Exolit AP 765 due to the filler like type of the flame retardant.
Subject to the polymer grade, processing conditions and reinforcements, the dosage of the flame retardant may vary.
ProcessingThe optimum conditions for incorporating should be determined in each individual case. Care must be taken to ensure homogeneous dispersion of all components. Both single- and twin-screw extruders are suitable for incorporating the product. The temperature of the polymer melt should not exceed 250°C.
To prevent degradation effects by high shear energy, it has proved an advantage to use machines of less shear-intensive design. When a water bath is used for cooling the strands, it is advisable to keep the passage through the water bath as short as possible to permit optimum evaporation of any entrained water. In some cases, depending on production conditions, it may be necessary to dry the granules obtained.
The mixing and processing methods customary in powder processing of polymers can be used with Exolit AP 765.
The VDI Guideline 2263 “Prevention of dust fires and dust explosions” or the relevant national regulations must be observed.
Packaging and HandlingDelivery form
Exolit AP 765 is delivered in 20 kg bags / 1.000 kg shrink-wrapped pallet.
Dispatch and Storage
Exolit AP 765 is non-hygroscopic. However, when stored in open container, the product can still absorb small amounts of moisture owing to the high surface area of the powder. Plastic granules containing Exolit AP 765 also absorb small amounts of water after processing, depending on storage conditions. It is therefore advisable to store plastic granules containing Exolit AP 765 in sealed containers at room temperature in a dry place. Partially emptied containers should be carefully resealed after use.
Minimum shelf life is 12 months from the date of shipping when stored according to the said conditions.
