Since the 1st of January 2020, the International Maritime Organization has implemented a sulfur limit for marine fuels of 0.5% also known as “IMO 2020”. Compliant low sulfur fuel oils (LSFO) may arrive from a waxy low sulfur crude diet and/or as a blend of different residual streams.

DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 is a polymer-based compatibility enhancer for LSFO. The product is used as a preventive measure to allow LSFO blending across all regions, which will help global refiners meet new regulation standards with fuel oil blends that remain stable and compatible.

DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 is a versatile product that can help inhibit the precipitation of waxes and asphaltenes in LSFO and VLSFO blends. It can also help to improve the results of Total Sediment Existent (TSE, ISO 10307-1) and Total Sediment Potential (TSP, ISO 10307-2) tests.

DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 is best applied as a preventive measure to help facilitate LSFO and VLSFO blending and can be used in both terminal storage tanks and fuel tanks. When applied in a vessel’s fuel tank it can help protect against sludge formation, which can lead to fuel filter blocking or possibly engine failure.

DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 can be injected undiluted and requires warming to 30 – 40°C before use. For optimal performance, the temperature of the oil being treated with DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 should be above the wax appearance temperature of that oil.

Treatment rates can vary but for LSFO and VLSFO typical dose rates between 100 – 500 ppm are sufficient to inhibit the precipitation of waxes and asphaltenes depending on the oil properties. For more challenging LSFO and VLFSO streams, treatment rates between 500 – 1500 ppm of DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 may be needed.  

If required, DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 can be diluted with an aliphatic or aromatic solvent in ratios between 1:1 to 1:4.

 

DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 is available in steel drums (200 L) and iso-tanker containers. When stored in the original closed packaging and protected from environmental effects DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 has a shelf life of 2 years.

Important: After prolonged storage at lower temperatures, the additive should first be heated and homogenized before further use.

DISPERSOGEN™ 2020 is intended for technical use only. Please consult the safety data sheet for further information.

The compatibility with metals, plastics and elastomers were deduced from typical behavior against the containing solvent. The product is compatible for storage in carbon and stainless steel. Other compatible materials are e.g. PTFE and flouroelastomers.
