Exolit™ BA 701 (TP)
Exolit™ BA 701 (TP) is a SVHC-free blowing agent, specifically designed for use in intumescent coating systems. It acts as gas-releasing component within the intumescent reaction. Upon thermal activation, the product undergoes controlled decomposition, releasing voluminous gases (primarily ammonia and carbon dioxide) that expand the carbonaceous char layer formed by the acid donor and carbon source components present in the intumescent formulation.
The protective mechanism is based on several synergistic effects:
- Char expansion: The released gases cause the forming char layer to expand significantly, creating a highly insulating, low-density foam structure that acts as a physical and thermal barrier between the flame and the underlying substrate
- Thermal insulation: The expanded intumescent char dramatically reduces heat transfer to the substrate, delaying critical temperature rise
- Diffusion barrier: The stable foam char limits oxygen supply to the combustion zone and suppresses the release of combustible pyrolysis gases, subsequently reducing heat release
- Endothermic contribution: The decomposition reaction absorbs energy from the system, further reducing substrate temperature Through this combination of effects, the thermal degradation and structural failure of protected substrates is significantly delayed, providing essential passive fire protection in building and construction applications.
