POUR POINT DEPRESSANT FOR LOW SULPHUR FUEL OIL
DODIFLOW® 8421
Data da edição :
agosto 16, 2023
From the 1st of January 2020, the International Maritime Organization will implement a sulphur limit for marine fuels of 0.5% also known as “IMO 2020”. These low sulphur fuel oils (LSFO) may partly arrive from a sweet crude diet and as a residue based blend of different refinery streams, like straight run, hydro-treated or hydro-cracked components. Depending on the composition, the LSFO qualities may show an increased pour point.
Clariant’s DODIFLOW® 8421 is a specialized pour point depressant developed to improve the cold flow properties of 0.5% sulphur fuel oils that allows for compliance to the ISO 8217 fuel specification.

Application & Dose Rates
DODIFLOW® 8421 can be injected undiluted when heated up to 50 – 60°C before use. At oil temperatures below 50°C, however, a dilution with an aromatic hydrocarbon in ratios of 1:1 to 1:4 is advised in order to ensure a good blending into the fuel steam. Dose rates depend on the fuel oil composition. Generally dose rates between 200 – 500 ppm are sufficient to achieve the required specification. In some cases, increased dose rates up to 2000 ppm may also be necessary.
Packaging & Storage
DODIFLOW® 8421 is available in in drums (200 L) or as bulk material in ISO container or road tank cars. When stored in the original closed drums and protected from environmental effects, DODIFLOW® 8421 can be stored on the shelf life for two years. A temperature of 50-60°C is recommended for storing the product.
Important: After prolonged storage at lower temperatures, the additive should first be heated and homogenized before further use.
Composition & Material Compatibility
DODIFLOW® 8421 is a polymer composition dissolved in higher boiling hydrocarbons. The compatibility with metals, plastics and elastomers were deduced from typical behavior against the containing solvent. The product is compatible for storage in carbon and stainless steel. Other compatible materials are PTFE and flouroelastomers.
