Supporting a good cause with chemistry

Children and youths who are in need of regular medical treatment or have to spend long periods in the hospital can easily lose touch with their class-mates. To prevent this from happening, the university clinic in Göttingen brought a hospital school to life where patients of every age can be educated during lengthy phases of treatment. In this way they do not miss important study contents and keep up with their class-mates. Over time the school’s premises became too small. It is currently expanded in order to improve the educational offerings.

Clariant’s Business Unit Functional Minerals was already involved in the proceedings at the construction site when Manger Rolf Ahlers heard of the hospital school project. He was immediately convinced of its good cause and so Clariant does not only supply the construction with special bentonite BENTONIL® C2 from its Duisburg site in Germany, but also donated 4 000 euros to support the hospital school.

With these resources, the school can purchase furniture for its class rooms, musical instruments and equipment for science subjects. “An important contribution to the education and development of young people,” says Ahlers.

It is a continuous effort to steer the company’s activities and contribute positively to the global sustainable development goals set out by the United Nations.
