Catalyst for benzene hydrogenation in kerosene, diesel, white oils and for "polishing" reactions

NiSat 310 RS

Edition Date :
February 06, 2026

NiSat™ 310 RS is a versatile nickel-based, pre-reduced and stabilized catalyst for hydrogenation of unsaturated compounds and aromatic ring structures.

Benzene and Solvent Hydrogenation in Hydrocarbon Processes:
NiSat 310 RS enables efficient aromatics saturation of various low sulfur intermediates: from light naphtha and kerosene to C16+ heavy cuts. It is an attractive base metal alternative for the saturation of synthetic intermediates, such as poly-alpha olefins or Fischer-Tropsch fractions.

NiSat 310 RS offers proven performance in aromatics reduction of low-sulfur feedstocks such as kerosene, diesel, base oils, white oils and bright stocks. The catalyst allows cost-effective aromatic saturation to reduce the smoke point of low-sulfur jet-fuel blending components, or to increase the cetane number of ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) blending components. Furthermore, NiSat 310 RS can be used for the hydrogenation of vegetable oil to hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO).

"Polishing" Hydrogenation Reactions to Achieve High-Purity Products:
The hydrogenation catalyst efficiently removes remaining carbonyl compounds from feed streams. This improves product quality and, thus, the achievable market price. It is also beneficial when re-introducing the product into an upstream process step: a feed with fewer impurities results in a longer lifetime of the catalyst used upstream.

NiSat 310 RS has been used successfully in "polishing" reactions to upgrade the quality of products including fatty and oxo-alcohols, caprolactam, and propylene (HPPO).

Product Information

Benefits

  • Highly active and robust base metal catalyst
  • Effective saturation i.e. removal of olefins, aromatics and more
  • Parallel hydrogenation of oxygenates and various sulfur (mercaptans, sulfides, thiophenes) and nitrogen species
  • Removal of carbonyl compounds down to low ppm levels
  • Efficient sulfur trapping capability (no H2S in reactor effluent)
  • Effective protection against sulfur peaks in feedstock and upsets
  • Lower reduction temperatures and shorter start-up times for pre-reduced materials compared to conventional approaches
  • Lower hydrogen volumes needed for activation during start-up
  • Computer-designed shape allows lower pressure drop over the reactor and less diffusion limitations
  • Attractive economics through reduction of costly turnarounds and longer runtimes
