Clariant offers a broad range of specialty additives with a variety of effects and possibilities to modify polymers for different applications: light stabilizers, processing stabilizers, antioxidants, sulfur-containing co-stabilizers, metal deactivators and antistatic agents.

Under the trade name AddWorks® Clariant Additives offers a broad range of application oriented solutions specifically designed by segment of the plastics industry like AddWorks® ATR for the Automotive & Transportation sector, AddWorks® AGC for Agriculture and AddWorks® TFB for Textile Fibers.

AddWorks are developed by matching the needs of companies engineering technologies for polymerization, polymer producers, compounders and even converters. AddWorks tailored formulations bring a fundamental change in providing multiple benefits such as improved productivity, stability and durability of converted parts, or protection of manufactured articles during their process; delivering features that are precious to Clariant’s customers.

    • Light Stabilizers

      Clariant’s light stabilizers have been especially designed to provide high protection to polymers from photochemical degradation. 

      By the addition of Hostavin® or Nylostab® stabilizers, the decline in mechanical and optical properties due to the action of light is considerably delayed. As a result, light sensitive polymers such as polyolefins become suitable for outdoor use.

      In paints and coatings, our light stabilizers will similarly contribute to protect efficiently the binders used in basecoats and clear coats from degradation, thus enhancing the durability of the coating system applied.

    • Antioxidants

      Clariant’s antioxidants are especially designed to provide high protection to polymers, particularly polyolefins, from oxidative damage. They prevent, degradation and/or crosslinking of polymers during processing and ensure long-term properties at a high level to the finished articles. 

      Clariant has developed over the years a unique portfolio of highly effective products providing solutions such as: 

      • phosphonite processing stabilizers; 
      • phenolic antioxidants; 
      • sulphur containing co-stabilizers; 
      • metal deactivators. 

      Hostanox® P-EPQ® 

      Highly effective processing stabilizer (also called secondary antioxidant) of the phosphonite type. It stabilizes the polymer melt against thermooxidative degradation ensuring excellent color stability as well as constant melt viscosity. 

      Hostanox® O 3, O 310 

      Phenolic stabilizers (also called primary antioxidants), acting as radical scavengers. During processing they maintain a consistent melt viscosity and prolong the lifetime of finished articles. 

      Hostanox® SE 4 and SE 10 

      Secondary antioxidants containing sulfur. They form synergistic mixtures with phenolic antioxidants maintaining the physical properties of the polymers during end use. 

      Hostanox® OSP 1 

      Metal deactivator is mainly used in polyolefins applications exposed to contact with copper and other metals such as wires and cables, polyolefine articles containing mineral fillers, etc. To learn more about our antioxidants, please download our brochures.

    • Antistatic Agents

      Clariant’s antistatic agents have been especially designed to provide highly aesthetic appearance and practical handling to plastic articles. 

      Their way of performance is based on a calculated migration to the articles surfaces and to build up a micro layer of humidity which enables electric charges to dissipate. Hence antistatic agents are used to solve the problems of static electricity avoiding troubles such as electric shock, dust attraction and sticking of films.

    • Process Stabilizers

      Clariant offers a special range of additives to improve process stability of polymers.  

      Nylostab S-EED 

      With its outstanding compatibility with polyamide, Clariant’s Nylostab S-EED additive provides a unique multi-functional effect in processing and long term light and heat stability of PA 6, PA 6.6 and other nylons. Nylostab S-EED stabilizes polyamides (including filled polyamides) during processing. It can be incorporated in-situ during the polymerisation process or can be conventionally added in pure form or as concentrate to polyamides. 

      Hostanox P-EPQ 

      Highly effective processing stabilizer of the phosphonite type. It stabilizes the polymer melt against thermooxidative degradation ensuring excellent color stability as well as constant melt viscosity. Hostanox P-EPQ is suitable for most kinds of thermoplastic polymers. It is recommended especially for the stabilization of polyolefins (LLDPE, HDPE, PP), ABS, PS, polybutylene, PBT, PC, PA, thermoplastic polyester, etc.
