Applications & Products

  • Artificial Turf Backcoating & Lamination

Licocene® performance polymers are the right solution for recyclable high quality artificial turf.

The innovative Licocene® grades are low molecular polyolefins manufactured by metallocene catalysts. With Licocene®, the high quality standards of hotmelt technology can be combined with a more economic and more environmentally compatible production.

Licocene® polymers display outstanding cohesion even at lowest molecular weights, as well as low viscosity allowing excellent penetration into the tufts to lock every filament.

Due to the chemical composition of Licocene® a 100% polyolefin based turf can be produced and, at the end of its life cycle, be re-used as a raw material for new artificial turf.

Licocene® Grades for Artificial Turf Backcoating and Lamination

Superior technical performance compared with latex or polyurethane:
    • No drying or waste water
    • Excellent bonding strength
    • Extensive energy saving

Superior technical performance compared with other hotmelts:

    • Low VOC and no odor during production and with the final product
    • Higher line speeds
    • High thermal stability leads to lower maintenance costs
    • Suitable for coating and lamination
  • Backbone Polymer for Hotmelt Adhesives

The innovative Licocene® grades are low molecular polyolefins manufactured by metallocene catalysts. Their outstanding cohesion, even at lowest molecular weights, makes Licocene® polymers the right solution for hotmelt adhesives, even unformulated. With Licocene®, the high quality standards of hotmelt technology can be combined with a more economic and more environmentally compatible production.

    Advantages of Licocene® Performance Polymers:

    • High thermal stability
    • Outstanding cohesive strength
    • Excellent wetting
    • Ready to use hotmelt adhesives

  • Carpet Backcoating & Lamination

Licocene® is the right solution for high quality, adjustable flexibility in the process and recyclable carpets. The innovative Licocene® grades are low molecular polyolefins manufactured by metallocene catalysts. Due to their low viscosity, they can penetrate deep into the fibers and lock the filaments. With a high amount of filler Licocene® can be used as a heavy layer including the tuft binding in one process. With their outstanding cohesion even at lowest molecular weights, Licocene® polymers are the right solution to enable more environmentally compatible high quality carpets.

  • Grafted Metallocene Polymers

The innovative Licocene® grades are low molecular polyolefins manufactured by metallocene catalysts.

Clariant has modified the existing structures of its Licocene® performance polymers by grafting various levels of functionality on the metallocene polymer chains. With their “functionality/compatibility balance”, these products are tools offering various effects like surface polarity, crosslinking, and coupling of fillers or natural and glass fibers into polymer matrices.

    Grafted Licocene® Grades

    Applications for grafted metallocene polymers:

    • Wetting agents for fillers
    • Adhesion promoters
    • Moisture curable hotmelt adhesives
    • Compatibilizer/Coupling Agents

Superior technical performance compared with other grafted polymers:

    • High level of grafting
    • Low content of free monomers
    • High compatibility

  • Textile Applications

With their unique property profile, Licocene® high performance polymers produced by metallocene catalysis are the solution of choice for mattress ticking. Because the products display a favorable ecological and toxicological safety profile, they are an almost perfect match for the demanding requirements of producers and consumers alike.

In particular, due to short set time, Licocene® PO 462 runs faster on hotmelt coating lines without any strike through. The longer open time of Licocene® PP 2602 makes it also suitable for lamination.
