Industrial grease components
Modern lubricating greases for your formulation tasks
The applications of lubricating greases extend far beyond simply lubricating. They may also be used as sealants, corrosion inhibitors, shock absorbers, and noise suppressants. Thus, the versatility and variation of lubricating greases are unprecedented when compared with “standard” industrial lubricants. As a formulator, it is crucial to have a wide range of high-quality and well-characterized base oils, components and additives on hand.
For industrial greases, Clariant offers a broad range of specialty ingredients. Among others, Clariant offers thickener for terephthalamate greases, precursors for polyurea greases, a range of polyalkylene glycols for ISO VG classes from 32-1000 and various other additives.
The chemistry of polyalkylene glycols can be varied in many ways for example via adjusting the starting alcohol, amounts of ethylene and propylene oxide, or catalysts used. This makes them very versatile and helps to tailor their properties to achieve certain desirable benefits:
- Viscosity,
- Polarity and water solubility,
- Freezing point
- Thermal properties,
- Lubrication,
- Hydrodynamic friction
Many of Clariant’s polyglycol products are registered on the LuSC list and comply with the updated 2020 criteria for sustainability requiring EU Ecolabel certifications for lubricants. Additionally, a wide range of these polyalkylene glycols are also listed as HX1 ingredients for the formulation for food-grade lubricants under the NSF.
