With specialized reagents from Clariant, the iron ore is cleaned and processed effectively in an energy-saving manner. Then the iron ore goes to the pelletizing step
where the bentonite is used. The bentonite changes its special layered structure, where the ion exchange with the protons enables additional water to enter between the layers and the mineral swells.
The surface area thereby increases fivefold. At the end of the process chain the resulting humid iron ore material needs to be converted into pellets to facilitate transport and handling. Clariant’s FLOTICOR® PA 8000 forces out water and
increases pellet compaction – the pellets become more robust.
