Sustainable and environmentally friendly PVC stabilizers: SORBACID hydrotalcites by Clariant Functional Minerals
SORBACID hydrotalcites create new opportunities in the processing and manufacturing of flexible, rigid and transparent PVC products. Window profiles, high temperatures cables, coated wires, pipes and a variety of other PVC products are already being stabilized using SORBACID, thus contributing to a safe and sustainable future of PVC. SORBACID works best in conjunction with Ca/Zn stabilizer systems creating an environmentally friendly, non-toxic and heavy-metal free alternative for PVC stabilization.
Conventional PVC stabilizing systems contain harmful elements like lead and tin. SORBACID® is the new alternative that surmounts the restrictions and disadvantages of working with Pb and Sn-stabilizer one-pack systems. Our SORBACID® products have been developed in accordance with market requirements and satisfy our customers’ needs for reliable and efficient production. A Zn-containing hydrotalcite has been added to the SORBACID® product range as well.
Ca-Zn systems can be applied to the whole field of PVC applications. For example, white window frames made from rigid PVC and stabilized with Ca/Zn showed excellent colour stability in long term weathering and in field tests. SORBACID® is also highly recommended for wire and cable applications, because it shows excellent high temperature insulating properties and, additionally, low water carry-over.
