Efficient Hydrogenation Catalysts for Purification of Terephthalic Acid

H2Max™ Series

H2Max™ catalysts are optimized for the purification of terephthalic acid (PTA) to remove impurities, such as 4-carboxybenzaldehyde (4-CBA). The process involves hydrogenation of colored by-products to water-soluble, colorless compounds in a fixed bed reactor. Thanks to the advanced design of our palladium-based catalysts, they ensure highly efficient purification of terephthalic acid, with 4-CBA content typically reduced to less than 20 ppm. The H2Max series is also a more economical solution, as it demonstrates significantly lower loss of costly palladium during operation compared to state-of-the-art catalysts.

We offer a choice of PTA purification catalysts to suit different plant requirements:

• H2Max™ 50: Classical grade PTA catalyst with reliable palladium retention
• H2Max™ HD: Higher grade with enhanced palladium retention due to patented dispersion and distribution of the precious metal on the support structure

Benefits
  • Precious-metal-based catalysts on granular carbon support with highly dispersed Pd, assuring activity remain stable for a long time
  • Efficient: The purified terephthalic acid (PTA) has typically less than 20 parts-per-million (ppm) of 4-carboxybenzaldehyde (4-CBA)
  • Cost-effective: Low loss of expensive palladium from the catalyst during operation
