Xylene and Ethylbenzene Isomerization Catalysts for Paraxylene Production
ISOXYL™ EBI Series
Edition Date :
December 05, 2024
ISOXYL™ EBI series catalyst are optimized for the isomerization of xylenes to an equilibrium mixture, while converting ethylbenzene to additional xylenes (rather than dealkylation). This ensures maximum feed utilization without creating benzene as a by-product. Thanks to an optimum balance between the zeolite’s protonic sites and the hydrogenation power of the noble metal function, the catalysts offer excellent selectivity for high conversion of ethylbenzene to paraxylene (PX). The former property reduces hydraulic load on the paraxylene separation section, while the latter improves plant economics by preserving aromatic rings.
ISOXYL EBI catalysts are designed for convenient use as a drop-in replacement in existing units. Producers also benefit from the catalysts’ superior stability, extended service life, and simple regeneration via carbon burn-off.
Product Information
Benefits
- High ethylbenzene conversion (EBC > 40%) reduces hydraulic load on para-xylene (PX) separation and allows for processing of high ethylbenzene feeds
- High paraxylene selectivity (PX/X > 23%)
- Low C8 ring loss (C8ARL < 2 mol%)
- High space velocity allows for reduced catalyst volume
- Superior stability (>5 years’ service life in first cycle)
- Simple regeneration by carbon burn-off
- Ideal for drop-in replacements and simple revamps
