MegaMax® 800 is a next-generation methanol synthesis catalyst that offers much higher activity than previous solutions – even at very low reactor temperatures and pressures. It also provides superior selectivity towards methanol production, as well as excellent stability and poison tolerance.
Thanks to its outstanding performance, MegaMax 800 enables a long lifetime of productivity and improved energy efficiency in comparison to standard methanol synthesis catalysts. The catalyst is suitable for large or small production units, and can be run with a variety of methanol production technologies.

July 19, 2021Clariant has been awarded another major contract by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) for its high-performance methanol synthesis catalyst, MegaMax 800. The Chinese oil and gas producer first used the catalyst at their Fudao plant in 2018, achieving record accumulative methanol production and plant reliability. The catalyst’s excellent performance has now resulted in its reorder which completed refilling and start-up in June 2021.more

September 12, 2019Another success story for MegaMax 800. Clariant’s next-generation methanol synthesis catalyst is delivering exceptional performance at the coal-to-liquid plant of China Energy Corporation (CHN Energy) Ningxia Coal Industry Co Ltd (NCIC), located in Yinchuan, Ningxia Province, China. Installed at the plant in August 2018, MegaMax 800 achieved an anticipated operation load of 102 percent after just two months. The new catalyst’s fast and favorable start is due to its 40 percent higher productivity compared to previous generations.more
