Beraca Murumuru Butter

The Murumuru tree is a palm tree found in the Amazon, in humid and temporarily flooded areas near rivers and lakes. It can reach up to 10m high and sometimes forms large populations. Its trunk is covered with thorns, making it more difficult and dangerous to collect the fruits. From murumuru seeds it is possible extracting about 50% of a white, odorless fat, with low rancidity levels, which allows its use in different industries.

Beraca and Clariant work with communities in the north of Brazil to collect the seeds to produce Murumuru butter. The gathering of seeds, alongside government social programs, offers an alternative to logging activities and brings additional income to the communities. As a result, it helps increasing the species diversity in açaízais and increasing added valued to native species.
