At Clariant, our purpose ‘Greater chemistry – between people and planet’ puts our people at the centre of our business. Alongside our responsibility to our employees and customers, we are dedicated to creating value and nurturing relations with the communities in which we operate and society as a whole.
Diversity, equity & inclusion
We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive environment, ensuring a discrimination-free workplace with equal opportunities. With more than 10,000 employees representing over 90 nationalities, we can harness the business benefits of different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. We live the difference.
The belief that trust, integrity, appreciation, and respect make Clariant and our employees stronger, ensuring long-term prospects, has been incorporated into our Global Employment Policy and Code of Ethics. Clariant’s membership in the UN Global Compact, our Group Policy on Human Rights, and global employment standards form the basis for activities in the DE&I area. To further foster an inclusive workplace, Clariant is supporting Employee Resource Groups (ERG), which are sponsored by members of the Executive Leadership Team.
Clariant’s global family support and flexible working policy are a strong pillar in allowing parents in general, and particularly women, to combine professional development and private life. We continuously reassess how to support parents and caregivers.
We aspire to
- Increase the Inclusion Index to 82% in 2030
- Grow the percentage of female leaders to over 30% in 2030 and strengthen gender balance for non-frontline employees to 45% by 2030
- Increase the percentage of leaders of national origin outside Europe at the senior management level to over 40% in 2030

Pay equity and living wage
At Clariant, we prioritize pay equity to ensure fair and unbiased remuneration for all employees—regardless of age, gender, cultural background, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation.
To foster transparency, we’ve introduced several initiatives, including targeted training and simplified resources that make it easier to access and understand remuneration-related information. We also conduct awareness sessions specifically focused on addressing the gender pay gap. Dedicated tools and processes help us analyze, track, and reduce this gap continuously.
In 2023, we launched a global Living Wage Initiative, reaffirming our commitment to ensuring that every Clariant employee earns a wage that covers essential living costs—such as housing, food, education, and healthcare. This initiative reflects our goal of creating real, positive impact for people and communities. To support this effort, we’ve partnered with the non-profit Fair Wage Network. Based on internal analysis conducted in Q1 2025 using Fair Wage Network data, 100% of Clariant employees currently receive a living wage. We are working towards obtaining a global living wage certification from the Fair Wage Network in 2025 to formally recognize this milestone.
Our ambition goes further. By 2030, we aim to extend living wage principles to our contractors and suppliers—collaborating with partners who share our values and commitment to fairness.
Health and safety
As a global specialty chemical company and a responsible employer, we are committed to promoting safety and health in the workplace. It is our commitment to address safety comprehensively and to ensure that employees come home from work as healthy as when they arrived.
Therefore, occupational safety processes and culture are top priorities to protect Clariant’s employees, ensure seamless manufacturing operations, and meet legal requirements and regulations at any time. This applies to all employees, supervised workers as well as contractors who must follow Clariant’s rules and measures. Additionally, comprehensive process safety management systems are in place across our plants to ensure high standards. Process risk analysis, change management, and regular audits are core elements to identify, assess and control risks in our production processes.
In 2023, our accident rate, measured by »Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred« (DART), decreased by over 46 % in 2023, which places us in the top quartile of the chemical industry.

Community engagement and donations
Across the five continents where we operate, we not only act as a responsible employer but also as a neighbor to actively contribute to economic and social progress in our communities.
Through our two global programs, our activities range from philanthropic disaster relief, charitable donations, and volunteering to more long-term partnerships and community investments.
