Our Approach
Our Open Innovation initiative supports the Business Units in identifying collaboration partners around the world, ranging from large corporations to start-ups, universities, and other research institutions. Important elements of Open Innovation are engaging technology scouts, promoting scientific partnerships and crowdsourcing technology solutions.
Our objective is to create better innovations and accelerate time to market by collaborating with outside partners with market-leading technologies. We understand that Open Innovation is an innovation in itself and therefore has to be managed accordingly if it is to be implemented successfully. It is all about connecting the front end to back end of Innovation.
Along with facilitating more scouting activities across regions, we are executing the best concepts through a series of testing, development, and implementation processes, aiming to increase the number of success stories.

Shaping the future of sugar surfactant with one of the largest and most innovative chemical companies in the world!
We are calling for global tech-partners to join us to explore new opportunities with our surfactant technology.
All proposals will be considered for various partnership and funding opportunities, as well as access to our in-house expertise and global markets. The top two proposals will stand a chance to win CHF 10,000 and 5,000 respectively.
Sustainability Challenge
Open Innovation plays an important role by going outside of the company to bring in leading sustainability solutions for our company. We have merged open innovation practices with the sustainability concept in order to support the developments of better products and new business opportunities geared with sustainability-related impacts. Below are our sustainability challenge topics:
- Circular Economy – Technologies that enable the recycling of solid wastes and spent materials to useful products
- Carbon Neutral – Technologies that reduce the release of harmful greenhouse gases, most notably carbon dioxide
- Health and Safety – Technologies that enable eco-friendly products for human and environment
Interested partners with relevant technology to our sustainability challenge are invited to this innovation call. Please clearly indicate the sustainability focus in the tech-proposal.
Supporting the transition from a one-way plastics value chain to a circular plastics economy
Clariant is proud to participate in the Singapore Sustainability Open Innovation Challenge 2020. Promising and committed global innovators will have the opportunity to work closely with us to co-develop solutions on our plastic recycling challenges below:
- Chemical recycling to obtain high quality pyrolysis oil
- Removal of labels on plastic packaging
Proposals that meet eligibility criteria for grand application may also be provided with funding support.
