The growing scarcity, and rising cost, of freshwater, has challenged the oil industry to find new, innovative, chemical solutions to control halite buildup. Clariant Oil Services developed the SCALETREAT HL product line to address this evolving industry challenge. Application of SCALETREAT HL reduces freshwater consumption between 74% and 95%. Our product also eliminates the need for a supplemental scale inhibitor as it is effective against halite and many types of carbonate and sulfate levels. Additionally, treatment rates of SCALETREAT HL are 50% less than those of traditional halite inhibitors. The most common strategy to control halite is fresh water addition upstream of deposition to dilute the problem. While chemical inhibitors for halite control have existed for some years, they usually required high concentrations of environmentally undesirable products. New production in the US, such as in the Bakken and the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, has resulted in more production of saline fluids. The Bakken region has already had a profound impact. Application of SCALETREAT HL at 80ppm was able to reduce water consumption to 10% of that of the incumbent strategy with a return of investment of nearly 1,000%.

Hostaphat 1306 is a phosphate ester, based on iso-tridecanol ethoxylate and is mainly used in EC and SC formulations as an anionic emulsifier and dispersing Agent.

Genapol PN 30 is a EO/PO block copolymer and used as a low foaming surfactant and lubricity improver in metal working fluids and metal cleaners. It is stable against hard water. In combination with corrosion inhibitors like Hostacor IT, Hostacor BIT or Hostacor BI, clear water soluble metal working fluids with good corrosion protecting and lubricating properties are obtained.

Hostagliss PA 135 is a polar polymer with multiple functional groups exhibiting a high affinity to metal surfaces. Hostagliss PA135 has good lubricity and anti-wear properties and it is used as a component of non-water miscible metal working fluids such as cutting oils or deep drawing oils. Other applications are rolling emulsions, gear oils and greases.

Hostapal BV conc. is used as anionic emulsifier for the emulsion polymerization of acrylate, styrene-acrylate and vinyl acetate dispersions.

Genapol TS Powder has a brilliant pearl lustre effect. It is compatible with anionic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants. The foaming behavior of surfactants is not effected.

Hostagliss 1510 is used as lubricity improver in rolling emulsions and cutting & forming fluids. It is a polar polymer of high molecular weight and with multiple functional groups exhibiting a high affinity to metal surfaces. Due to the products high degree of saturation, it shows an excellent oxidative and thermal resistance but also hydrolytical stability.

The alkali and alkaline earth salts of Hostagel HT 300 are used as gel-forming agents or thickeners for the production of greases for special applications at high and low temperatures, exposure to high pressure, high and low revolutions, aggressive media, etc. The average concentration used is 10 % by weight, calculated on the liquid basestock. These so-called terephthalamate greases have relatively high drop points, very good water stability and low penetration values. Depending on the property and application of the grease, mineral oils as well as synthetic oils such as dicarboxylicacid esters, silicones/siloxanes, polyalkylene glycols, polyalphaolefines, alkyl benzenes and polyalkylene ethers can be used as basestocks.

Hostaphat 1322 is an efficient EP/AW additive with emulsification as well as corrosion inhibiting properties for ferrous metals and aluminum alloys. It is used for metal working fluids (emulsions, semi-synthetic) as well as for rolling emulsions and rolling oils.

It is a solid product and comes in acid form, offering the formulator full flexibility for neutralization. Water-soluble salts of Hostacor IS are obtained by neutralization with alkanolamines and aqueous alkali hydroxides. These are used either alone or in combination with other water-soluble corrosion inhibitors or lubricants. Alkanolamines salts derived from Hostacor IS are excellent corrosion inhibitors for steel and show very good hard water stability. Hostacor IS is compatible with phosphoric acid esters in neutralized form, like Hordaphos MDB. Thus extreme-pressure properties of semi- and full synthetic formulations based on Hostacor IS can be adjusted.

Hostagliss DHSZ is a complex ester and can be used as lubricity improver in rolling emulsions and cutting & forming fluids. Despite its high vicosity, it can be easily incorporated into concentrates for water based emulsions. The product contributes to emulsion stability and corrosion protection when neutralized with alkanolamines.

Genapol PS is a EO/PO random polymer and used as a low foaming surfactant and lubricity improver in metal working fluids and metal cleaners. It is stable against hard water. In combination with corrosion inhibitors such as Hostacor IT, clear water soluble metalworking fluids with good lubricating and corrosion protecting properties are obtained.

Mineral oil based formulations show no gelation tendency, form spontaneously emulsions and are stable in hard water.

Hostacor 2732 is a liquified version of Hostacor IS and used as low foaming corrosion inhibitor in cutting & grinding fluids, in rolling emulsions and water-based hydraulic fluids (HFA-E, HFA-S). Hostacor 2732 is insoluble in water. Water soluble salts of Hostacor 2732 are obtained by neutralization with alkanolamines and hydroxides. These are used alone or in combination with other water soluble corrosion inhibitors or lubricants. Alkanolamines salts derived from Hostacor 2732 are excellent corrosion inhibitors for steel and show very good hard water stability.
