Richard has been Chief Strategy & Technology Officer of Clariant since February 2025. In this role, he oversees Clariant’s corporate growth strategy driven by Innovation and Sustainability. He leads the Strategy & Technology Function which includes Corporate Strategy, Global Product Stewardship, Environmental Safety Health & Systems Management (ESHA & IGSM), Engineering & Process Technology (EPT), Sustainability Affairs, Government Affairs, and Strategy and Innovation Systems.
Previously, he served as Chief Technology & Sustainability Officer from 2022 and led Clariant’s Sustainability Transformation efforts starting in 2020.
From 2015 to 2020, he managed multiple internal startup ventures exploring growth beyond Clariant’s core business as Head of New Business Development . From 2010 to 2015, he played a key role in shaping Clariant’s Innovation System as Clariant Excellence Deployment Leader for Innovation Excellence.
Prior to joining Clariant, Richard spent a decade in leadership roles within the pharmaceutical contract manufacturing industry.
He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, where he also studied Chemistry, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Diego, US.
