Exolit AP 862 (TP) is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on modified encapsulated ammonium polyphosphate, which develops its effectiveness through phosphorus/nitrogen synergism. Exolit AP 862 (TP) differs in its mode of action from chlorine- or bromine-containing flame retardants by creating an insulating char. The flame retarded material foams in combination with nitrogen-containing blowing agents on exposure to heat. The carbon foam layer so formed protects the substrate through its heat insulating effect and reduces further oxygen access, thereby reducing heat release, flame spread and smoke release.

  • May be used in water-based coatings for wood or textiles
  • Shows excellent compatibility with many different binder systems, in particular vinyl acetate and polyurethane dispersions
  • The high compatibility leads to a lower viscosity profile and improved transparency in dedicated coating formulations, favorable to fire protection coatings for wood, MDF, chipboards, plywood and veneered wood
  • The encapsulation ensures a lower water solubility compared to non-encapsulated ammonium polyphosphate and enables formulators to achieve higher water resistance in coatings

The product does not require a hazard warning label according CLP regulation (Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, as amended).

Exolit AP 862 (TP) is supplied in bags with 20 kg net weight.

Storage
Minimum shelf life is 12 months from the date of shipping when stored according to the recommended conditions.
