Additives for paints
Regulatory constraints, environmental considerations, and evolving consumer preferences require constant reformulation.
At Clariant, we work closely together with our customers to select the right additives to address economic and ecological concerns and boost the paints’ performance.
Our portfolio focuses on solutions for water-based architectural coatings and enables the manufacture of paints that comply with ecolabel criteria.
Our product groups
Wetting agents / compatibilizers
Wetting agents improve compatibility, reduce rub-out effects and influence the coating’s storage stability, gloss, scrub resistance, and foaming behavior among others. All our products are APEO-free, low-VOC and ecolabel-compliant.
Wetting agents / process aids
Certain wetting agents are used as process aids to optimize processing time. Wetting agents can help avoid agglomeration; this is especially important in areas where hard tap water is utilized in the manufacturing process.
Neutralizing agents
Multifunctional neutralizing agents not only adjust the pH value of the paint formulation, but also create a stable system between paint components. Renewable-based, VOC/SVOC-free alternatives do not require any hazard labeling and are thus the ideal ingredient for ecolabel-certified paints.
Stabilizers
The new generation of biocide-free paints offers the benefit for consumers to be less allergenic as they are free of biocides such as isothiazolinones. The biocide-free paint system is mineral-based, contributing to a healthier indoor climate by offering better vapor permeability.
