The Battery Show Europe

Europe Automotive and Transportation Aviation Plastics and Polymers

Solving your burning problems

We are excited to exhibit at The Battery Show Europe, one of Europe's premier advanced battery trade shows, taking place June 18-20, 2024 in Stuttgart, Germany.

As a leader in specialty chemicals, Clariant will highlight its halogen-free flame retardants Exolit® for battery applications in electric vehicles and other e-mobility solutions.

Experts from Clariant's Polymer Solutions team will be at Booth 9-E51 to discuss flame retardant solutions for thermoplastic and thermoset resins used in EV battery housings and components, addressing key industry challenges. For example, by enabling passing the demanding UL 2596 Torch & Grit test, which is highly relevant for safe battery housings.

Visitors to the booth can learn more about our offerings and how they allow customers to meet stringent requirements for electric mobility markets.

We look forward to connecting with you at the show.

  • Exolit™ AP – Fire protection coatings
Our non-halogenated Exolit™ AP flame retardants for the building & construction and protective & marine sector take intumescent fire safety to a new level. They enable an extended shelf life of intumescent systems, allow them to be applied in challenging conditions, and even boost their ability to save lives by enabling a faster response and longer resistance to fires compared to intumescent coatings based on standard APPs

Product Highlights

  • Exolit™ AP 422 A
Exolit AP 422 A is a fine-particle ammonium polyphosphate (phase II) with less than 0.1% melamine. The product is largely insoluble in water and completely insoluble in organic solvents. It is colorless, non-hygroscopic, non-flammable, and classified as SVHC-free under current regulations.

  • Exolit™ AP 462
Exolit AP 462 is a product based on ammonium polyphosphate. The crystal modification is phase II. It is manufactured from ammonium polyphosphate by micro-encapsulation with melamine resin according to Clariant’s own method. Therefore the fine white powder of Exolit AP 462 shows a very low solubility in water, even at elevated temperatures, compared to Exolit AP 422. Exolit AP 462 is completely insoluble in organic solvents. The product is non-hygroscopic and non-flammable.

  • Exolit™ OP 1230
Exolit OP 1230 is a white, fine-grained powder based on an organic phosphinate. The product is non-hygroscopic and it is insoluble in water and organic solvents. Clariant’s Exolit OP flame retardants for polyamides are all based on aluminum diethyl-phosphinate (= DEPAL). The pure substance DEPAL is sold as Exolit OP 1230 and in combination with synergists as Exolit OP 13xx types. Exolit OP 1230 is the first non-halogenated flame retardant which can withstand the demanding requirements of this high end segment of engineering plastics. For more details see our Innovation Spotlight video.

  • Exolit™ OP 1400 Terra
Exolit OP 1400 Terra is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on organic phosphinates for reinforced polyamide 6, polyamide 66 and high temperature polyamides. The product achieves its flame retardant effect through a combined gas phase and condensed phase mode of action. Exolit OP 1400 Terra is chemically and from its composition equivalent to Exolit OP 1400, but comes with a mass balance certificate as for its production, renewable based Ethylene was sourced. Therefore we assume that for Exolit OP Terra products no additional performance testing and qualification compared to the standard grade are necessary. For more details see our Innovation Spotlight video.
