Clariant Corporation Exhibits Controlled Atmosphere Packaging at Interphex

  • Clariant’s new Healthcare Packaging segment builds on Süd-Chemie Performance Packaging technical competencies
  • Clariant is displaying its full portfolio of moisture and oxygen protection solutions for pharmaceutical packaging
  • Customers benefit from access to the collective healthcare packaging resources of the Clariant organization, including Masterbatches colorants and additives

Muttenz, Switzerland, April. 23 2013 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, announced earlier this year that Süd-Chemie, Inc. has officially become part of Clariant Corporation, with its flagship North American production facility based in Belen, New Mexico. The Performance Packaging business of Süd-Chemie now forms the foundation for Clariant’s Healthcare Packaging segment, a member of the Medical Specialities Business Line, which focuses on the design and manufacture of packaging solutions for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and diagnostic applications. Healthcare Packaging is inaugurating its new Clariant brand as a part of Clariant’s Business Unit Masterbatches by exhibiting together for the first time in the U.S. at Interphex at booth 2071.

“Süd-Chemie Performance Packaging is now officially part of the Clariant family,” said Andy Walti, head of Clariant’s global Medical Specialities Business Line. “Our focus on excellence in development, production and business processes will enhance the strong technical platform built by Süd-Chemie. To provide a seamless transition, Clariant is focusing on customer and market requirements and identifying new solutions to address critical healthcare packaging needs. We are confident that this integration will benefit our customers by giving them access to broader resources and expertise offered by the global Clariant organization.”

Healthcare Packaging is displaying its extensive portfolio of high-quality controlled atmosphere packaging solutions, ranging from drop-in desiccants to container-closure systems, which protect against damaging moisture and oxygen. These include EQ-Pak® sorbents, which act simultaneously as a humectant and desiccant to ensure that the package environment will not drop below or rise above specified humidity levels (within stated tolerances, moisture vapor transmission rates and temperatures). Another product being featured is Clariant’s Continu-Strip® hole-punch packets. Unlike other continuous strip packets on the market that are designed for specific insertion equipment,Clariant’s Continu-Strip packets are compatible with any desiccant packet inserters on the market, and Clariant technicians work directly with customers to integrate the use of Continu-Strip on their existing lines. Furthermore, the hole placed in each packet seal provides the best detection method to ensure accurate cutting and insertion into pharmaceutical containers.

Clariant’s resources also include colorants and additives specifically designed for healthcare applications. Clariant’s Business Unit Masterbatches is also exhibiting a new range of MEVOPUR® processing and functionality-enhancing additives that address customer needs for greater cost efficiency and differentiation. Clariant MEVOPUR ISO10933/USP 23 Parts 87 and 88 tested colorants are ideal for pharmaceutical packaging.

EQ-PAK®, CONTINU-STRIP®, AND MEVOPUR® ARE REGISTERED TRADEMARKS OF CLARIANT.
