Exolit OP flame retardant contributes to heightened fire safety in Brazilian Stadium for the 2014 FIFA World Cup

In December 2013, Italy’s Radici Group (Bergamo) announced that its nylon 6 flame retardant Radiflam® range would be used for seats (and many of their components, such as armrests, bolts and support) for six of the twelve Stadiums hosting the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

With the help of highly efficient flame retardant such as Exolit® OP, Radici was able to develop material that not only met the requirements imposed by the FIFA but also met the Brazilian new construction regulation for safety and comfort NBR-15925. In addition to good mechanical resistance and flame retardant characteristics, the seat components should resist extended exposure to UV rays, Radici said. The stadiums using the material are the “Mineirão” in Belo Horizonte, the “Estádio Nacional” in Brasília, the “Fonte Nova” in Salvador, the “Arena Grêmio” and “Beira-Rio” in Porto Alegre and the “Arena Corinthians” were the opening game will take place on June 12th.

Exolit® OP products are non-halogenated flame retardant additive for engineering plastics that allow material to reach the stringiest fire safety standard such as UL94-V0 rating and that can be furnished in all colours.
