Clariant to feature protection and corrosioninhibiting solutions for light metals at the 15th China International Lubricants and Technology Exhibition InterLubric 2014

Shanghai, November 6, 2014 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, will return to the China International Lubricants and Technology Exhibition (InterLubric) in 2014 with dedicated product offerings for the industrial lubricants industry in China. With a host of feature products, including emulsifiers, lubricants and corrosion inhibitors that provide extra protection for expensive light metals and alloys, Clariant offers specialized components for both steel and aluminum cutting and grinding fluids.

The lubricant industry in China has been undergoing an industry-wide upgrade, prompted by the reform and transformation of the market triggered by the implementation of the 12th Five-Year Plan. While stronger domestic demand for motor vehicles coupled with a growing investment in infrastructure construction, has created heightened demand for lubricant-related products, development of new application areas is also on the rise amidst specialization of the industry in China.

"As a leading supplier to the industrial lubricant industry in China, Clariant has grown to become a leading local producer of highly specialized additives and synthetic base fluids, without compromising our high international quality standards. With over 90% of Clariant's global lubricant product line produced in China today, Chinese customers benefit from a significantly improved supply chain, shorter lead times and improved service provided by our team at Clariant," said Michael Lyons, Head of Business Segment Industrial Applications Asia Pacific, Business Unit Industrial and Consumer Specialties, Clariant.

Corrosion inhibitors with lubrication and EP/AW benefits Among the range of products on display at InterLubric 2014 is Clariant's protection solution for aluminum and magnesium against corrosion and staining.

Driven by the need to reduce weight so as to increase energy and fuel efficiency, light weight materials such as aluminium alloys, magnesium, titanium and high strength steel are becoming increasingly important in many industries. In the automotive industry, for instance, the use of light metals is expected grow from approximately 30% to 70% in the next two decades. In spite of all these changes, traditional ferrous metals such as steel are continuously produced and machined. Copper or cobalt will also remain; either being used in the manufacturing process or as a part of equipment and tools.

Coping with different metals that are present in the work piece or tools is no easy task for a metal working fluid. As a key supplier to lubricant formulators, Clariant understands its customers' increasing need for specialized components and formulation support especially for aluminium cutting fluids.

To help metal working fluid formulators address today's formulation challenges, Clariant offers effective corrosion inhibitors that protect both steel and aluminium while reduce copper and cobalt leaching and at the same time deliver additional functionalities such as lubrication or EP/AW properties.

Corrosion inhibitors featured at InterLubric 2014 include the non-phosphorus Hostacor® AL, the complex ester Hostagliss® L4 and the phosphoric Hordaphos® MDIT.

Emulsifiers with excellent compatibility Clariant offers a highly specialized system of emulsifiers with excellent compatibility for milky and semisynthetic cutting and forming fluids. To better perform in Al-Mg alloys fluids, the quality of the emulsifier, Emulsogen®, is crucial in achieving a homogenous formulation with no turbidity. Its excellent emulsion stability and spontaneous emulsion formation provides high electrolyte and hard-water stability, while improving wetting properties.

The series of emulsifiers on display at InterLubric 2014 includes Emulsogen MTP 070, Emulsogen M, Emulsogen CLO 100 and Emulsogen CLE 070.

Clariant will exhibit these products and more at booth number A012, Hall 8B from November 20th-22nd 2014 at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. Clariant's technical team will be on-hand to explain the function of these products to visitors at the show.
