  • Unique high performance solutions based on renewables will help coatings' manufacturers to design more sustainable products
  • Create a protective coating with a natural, untreated wood touch by using Ceridust® 8090 TP or a semi gloss and silky surface by adding Ceridust 8091 TP
  • Ceridust 8090 TP and Ceridust 8091 TP make their EcoTain® debut at European Coatings Show, April 21-23, Hall 7 Booth 7-123
Muttenz, April 22, 2015 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, presents its innovative solutions for wood coatings based on renewable sources, that can protect effectively against surface damages and meet the demand for more sustainable coating systems.

Ceridust® 8090 TP and the latest innovation Ceridust 8091 TP, which will be presented for the first time at the European Coatings Show 2015, are based on Polysaccharide from renewable sources not in conflict with food. They carry Clariant's EcoTain label because of their outstanding sustainability profile and excellent performance. The EcoTain label identifies Clariant's flagship products and solutions that offer outstanding sustainability advantages and exceed market standards.

Both Ceridust solutions offer wood coating producers a step-change in performance from a bio-based wood coating additive. In addition Ceridust outperforms in terms of scratch resistance and higher coefficient of friction compared to standard waxes. Ceridust solutions are offered in different particle size distributions to provide a variety of surface properties, from a silky touch to natural wooden haptic effect.

The value proposition of Ceridust 8090 TP & 8091 TP solutions is based on their superior performance as well as their use of renewable raw material.

Ceridust 8090 TP - the coarser version ( 30µm) of this additive for wood coatings creates a protected and smooth surface with the pleasant feel of untreated wood. The micronized polymer increases coefficient of friction in combination with outstanding scratch resistance performance in water-based formulations.

Ceridust 8091 TP - the fine grind (8 µm) of the renewable based micronized polymer combines smoothness with very high scratch resistance. The high matting efficiency, together with these properties, enables the manufacturer to formulate more sustainable coatings with top quality.

"The wood coating industry is looking for sustainable solutions without compromising on performance. Clariant's EcoTain® solutions Ceridust 8090 TP and 8091 TP create new possibilities for renewable-based wood coatings with specific surface finishes that do not compromise on the protection of the coating. Their suitability for water-based formulations supports coatings' producers in their conversion to more environmentally-friendly products, " comments Oliver Kinkel, Head of Business Unit Additives.

Ceridust 8090 and Ceridust 8091 will feature in the ECS Congress presentation "Renewable micronized powders for coatings and ink" on April 20 from 12.00-12.30, and at Clariant's ECS 2015 Booth #7-123 in Hall 7, Messezentrum Nuremberg from April 21-23, 2015.
