Shanghai, April 29, 2015 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, as well as a role model corporate citizen actively supporting various community initiatives in the regions the company is active in, is co-hosting a carnival at the Zhenjiang Xuefu Road Primary School this afternoon. The event belongs to Clariant's HOPES1 program, which supports local educational development and illustrates how Clariant is becoming a good corporate citizen through its commitment to sustainability.

The carnival is themed "Wonderful and Happy School Life," and intended to give students the opportunity to take a short break from their studies and explore their talents and interests. A highlight of the carnival is a "Science Gadget" event, during which the students will have the chance to enjoy the fun of science alongside the experts from Clariant volunteer team. The event is also featuring a yard sale to raise funds for scholarships for the students who needed, and exhibits on various cultures from around China and the world.

A team of more than 40 Clariant volunteers coming from Clariant's Greater China Headquarters in Shanghai and its Zhenjiang production site have contributed their spare time and efforts for the event organization and preparation over the past few months. Today they are coming to the school to run the carnival together with the teachers and students to share their knowledge with the students.

"The carnival gives us a chance to advocate our philosophy for sustainable development in education by encouraging a healthy, open, positive and explorative spirit towards sustainable practice among the students," said Margaret Soong, Head of Regional Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs for Clariant Greater China."Sustainability does not stop at the boundaries of our operations and products. It goes almost everywhere, at our workplace and in our daily life, guiding us to contribute to the betterment of our society."

Clariant's partnership with the Zhenjiang Xuefu Road Primary School, which began in November 2014, is the first project under the HOPES program. The School was established in 1921 in Zhenjiang and has grown today with more than 700 students. In addition to fulfilling its traditional educational objectives, the school is known for encouraging students to take active part in extracurricular activities.

"We are very excited about the carnival and our students are having a lot of fun today!" said Wang Fang, the school Headmaster. "The enthusiastic participation from Clariant employees shows how deeply they care for our community and how committed they are to instilling a philosophy of sustainable development in our young generation."

Clariant Huizhou site Open Day in May

Following the school carnival today, the HOPES project will next be stopping at Clariant's Huizhou manufacturing site on 22 May, where an Open Day of the site will be held for the community.

1The HOPES program is a new corporate citizen activity running in Clariant Greater China since 2014, focusing on supporting sustainable development of education in the local communities in Greater China where Clariant is active in.
