  • New multi-purpose facility boosts production capacity to tap into growth in Asia for Clariant
  • First Production facilities under Functional Minerals Business Unit to be built inside Indonesia's first fully integrated industrial estate - JIIPE in Surabaya
Singapore, November 5, 2015 ā€“ Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, announces today that it has acquired the land in the JIIPE (Java Integrated Industrial & Port Estate Gresik) located in Surabaya, Indonesia to build a new strategic site that will serve the growing production needs of different Business Units from Clariant's Southeast Asia and Pacific region. Conveniently located in Gresik, 24km from the capital city of East Java - Surabaya, JIIPE is the first fully integrated industrial estate established in Indonesia with its deep sea port and proximity to Juanda International Airport, in addition to direct access to toll roads connecting to Surabaya and major cities in East Java.

With East Java fast becoming one of the most important chemical industry hubs in Indonesia, the JIIPE has good logistic connections with container and bulk port facilities for efficient local and international deliveries to other islands and overseas.

The first facility of Clariant to be established in the fully integrated industrial park will be a new bleaching earth plant for the Business Unit of Functional Minerals, which is a leading provider of specialty products based on Bentonite to enhance a wide range of products and processes in various industries from food to foundry. With the good infrastructure setup of the JIIPE, other Business Units of Clariant may follow to get established at the park to form a multi-purpose industrial site.

"Our purchase of land in Surabaya once again reaffirms Clariant's commitment to growth and the future of Indonesia as manufacturing hub for South East Asia and Pacific. The building of our upcoming multi-BU site in Surabaya will enhance our future sustainable growth in the country by leveraging secured sources of energy and great logistic support available at the industrial park," says Francois Bleger, Regional Head of Clariant's Southeast Asia & Pacific region.

At the moment Clariant is operating six facilities in Indonesia with sites and plants set up in Tangerang, Cimapag, Cileungsi, Cikampek, Medan and Duri. The new location in Surabaya will further supplement Clariant's existing manufacturing capacity and capability in the region, as the specialty chemical company continues expansion of its footprint in Asia.
