Clariant Healthcare Packaging Exhibiting at INTERPHEX 2016

  • Full line of moisture and oxygen degradation protection products
  • Presenting information about new USP <670> compliance
  • Business Continuity Planning (BCP) expands further

Charlotte, April 21, 2016 – Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, and its Healthcare Packaging unit, is coming to INTERPHEX 2016 with information about compliance with  USP Chapter <670>, which now includes a section governing the use of desiccants in pharmaceutical packaging. The company will also present its full range of solutions for protecting pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and diagnostic products from moisture and oxygen, including desiccant canisters and packets.

Scheduled for April 26-28 at the Javits Center, New York City, INTERPHEX (International Pharmaceutical Expo) is a leading annual industry event dedicated to showcasing pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical innovation, technology and knowledge (www.interphex.com). Clariant is exhibiting in Booth #1945.
The event is particularly timely since it comes less a week before an updated Chapter <670> of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) becomes official on May 1st, and Clariant will be communicating information on its products’ compliance. The Chapter now includes a new section, which was initially published in November 2015, to cover standards for the quality, purity and efficacy of desiccants used in pharmaceutical packaging. The section covers many different elements in the production and use of desiccants, the most significant of which cover purity of the desiccant and its moisture-absorption capacity.
Another key message Clariant has for pharmaceutical packagers is that its sites in Belen and in Romorantin, France, maintain ISO 15378 certifications, which govern the design, manufacture and supply of primary packaging materials for medicinal products under Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
Also being communicated at the show is the launch of a line of standard desiccant packets from Clariant’s newest plant in Dongguan, China. This is in line with Clariant’s Business Continuity Planning (BCP) program, which is aimed at providing customers with the assurance that critical products are available from multiple manufacturing sites.
Clariant will display its full line of controlled atmosphere packaging solutions to protect pharmaceuticals from moisture and oxygen, including its global standard desiccant platforms:  desiccant canisters for high speed insertion and efficient desiccant Continu-Strip® hole-punch packets.  Also featured will be its EQ line of packets and canisters. Acting as a both humectants (desorbers) and desiccants (adsorbers) simultaneously, EQ products maintain a particular equilibrium relative humidity (ERH) inside product packaging.
