Clariant's EcoTain® wins sustainability recognition at Shanghai event
Shanghai, September 11, 2017 – Clariant, a world-leader in specialty chemicals, received two important awards during the "Heading Towards 2040: Corporate Innovation and Urban Sustainability" Excellence Awards campaign, which is organized to demonstrate Shanghai's progress towards becoming a global city of excellence in sustainable development. Clariant's sustainability flagship label – EcoTain, which readily identifies its products with an outstanding sustainability and performance profile, was selected to receive the Sustainability Best Practice Award and the Sustainability Influencer Award during the presentation ceremony held on 8 September 2017 in Shanghai.
"Everyone at Clariant is very proud of our EcoTain label being selected to receive the duo of awards in the Heading Towards 2040 Summit. The recognition further underlines our commitment to not only implement sustainability within our company, but also to influence others along our value chains and benefit to our society eventually," said Jan Kreibaum, Clariant's Regional President of Greater China, who represented the company to receive the awards at the presentation ceremony.
Jointly sponsored by the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, the "Heading Towards 2040: Corporate Innovation and Urban Sustainability" Excellence Awards campaign aims to encourage domestic and foreign companies to actively pursue sustainability initiatives, promote China's sustainability targets, and showcase Shanghai's achievements in innovation, business environment and sustainable development.
As the winner in two categories, Clariant demonstrates that its EcoTain label has proven effective in bringing value to stakeholders in the industry by actively supporting the sustainability efforts without compromising on performance.
Behind the EcoTain label: Clariant's Portfolio Value Program (PVP)
Chemical products are playing an indispensable part in modern living. As a result, any stage or process in the chemical industry may have a strong impact on the wellbeing of the environment and the society. In order to reduce the environmental impact of its products, Clariant assesses the sustainability of its own products by taking into account their value from three dimensions of the economy, environment, and society through the Portfolio Value Program (PVP). Developed with the Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP), a renowned "think and do tank" founded by the UNEP and the Wuppertal Institute, the Program implements tools and processes to screen and move Clariant's product portfolio towards increased sustainability performance.
With a focus on holistic and life cycle thinking and through its innovative processes, criteria and screening, PVP supports the continuous improvement of the full product portfolio, and the identification of EcoTain products and solutions with credible claims and proof points. The EcoTain label enables customers to make an informed choice and therefore contributes to helping to make the marketplace even greener, as consumers show their influence through their informed purchasing decision.
Only those Clariant products that cover all 36 indicators of the three sustainability dimensions of the economy, society and the environment stipulated under the PVP may qualify as EcoTain products. Today Clariant has 146 EcoTain products in its portfolio, across all Business Units. This is an increase of almost 150% since the label was launched in September 2015.
EcoTain® IS A TRADEMARK OF CLARIANT REGISTERED IN MANY COUNTRIES.
