Clariant dedicated to promoting industry innovation at 18th Chinese National Congress on Catalysis
Munich, October 17, 2017 – Clariant, a world-leader in specialty chemicals, provided key sponsorships at the 18th Chinese National Congress on Catalysis, which kicked off today in Tianjin, China. The biennial event, considered the most important scientific catalysis conference in China, has successfully attracted over 2,500 attendees, representing local and overseas academic, research and commercial organizations.
The congress is organized by the Catalysis Society of China, co-hosted by Tianjin University, Hebei University of Technology, and CNOOC Tianjin Research and Design Institute of Chemical Industry. Under the theme of "Catalytic science and technology in sustainable environmental, energy and economic development", the congress features keynote speeches, panel discussions, as well as an exhibition dedicated to the latest developments made in catalytic materials, new reactions, characterization techniques and industrial catalytic processes.
"Clariant is very happy to contribute to the 18th Chinese National Congress on Catalysis and help bring such an important conference to our industry in China today. Our sponsorships further reaffirm Clariant's commitment to supporting innovation and R&D efforts to the Chinese chemical industry in order to drive forward a more sustainable future," says Marvin Estenfelder, Head of R&D at Clariant's Business Unit Catalysts.
"Focus on innovation through R&D" is one of the key strategic pillars of Clariant, and the company is dedicated to promoting scientific progress across the chemical industry globally. Clariant's commitment to innovation in China was demonstrated most recently in September, when the company launched its Innovation Fair in order to align the industry in further collaboration on the research forefront. At the fair, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the China Petroleum Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) and Clariant to help promote innovation and enhance sustainability development in the industry. In addition, the CPCIF-Clariant Cleantech Award was announced, which will recognize young local researchers' achievements in sustainable chemical technologies.
Achievement Award honors R&D breakthroughs
In addition to being a Gold sponsor at the National Congress on Catalysis, Clariant is also the sponsor of the Achievement Award presented by the Catalysis Society of China to the individual with the most significant R&D achievement in the catalysis field in China. Zhongmin Liu, director of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was announced the winner during the National Congress on Catalysis. Prof. Liu's achievements in the commercial areas of Dimethyl ether/Methanol to Olefins (DMTO) and syngas-to-ethanol have earned him huge industry recognition. Consequently, he has been elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the most honorable distinction that can be bestowed upon an engineer in China.
Prof. Zhongmin Liu stated, "I want to thank the Catalysis Society of China for presenting me with this very important award and also Clariant for supporting it. As someone dedicated to catalysis R&D in China, it is very special to be presented with the Achievement Award during the Chinese National Congress on Catalysis. I'll continue to dedicate myself to research excellence in the field of catalysis."
