The VAMax™ series of selective oxidation catalysts offers high activity for Vinyl-Acetate Monomer (VAM) producers. VAM is produced by reacting ethylene and acetic acid with oxygen (oxy-acetylation) in the presence of a catalyst. It is an essential building block for various polymer and co-polymer derivatives.

SynDane™ catalysts enable cost-efficient production of maleic anhydride via partial oxidation of n-butane in fixed-bed tubular reactors. Their superior yield and selectivity greatly reduce by-product formation and downstream polymerization, thus minimizing downtime of maleic anhydride plants.

EnviCat GP catalysts address the high quality demands of technical gases, reducing the level of impurities to minimal levels. The catalyst effectively purifies carbon dioxide (CO2), which is used in the production of urea (CH4N2O): After the steam reforming process, which produces hydrogen from a hydrocarbon stream, the CO2 is separated. This CO2 must be purified: impurities such as hydrogen (H2), hydrocarbons (HCs), and carbon monoxide (CO) need to be removed so it can be reused for the urea synthesis process. EnviCat GP also purifies oxygen (O2) which has been produced via electrolysis: In a process called electrolysis, water (H2O) is decomposed into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) by passing an electric current. High-purity oxygen is required for many chemical processes. Any remaining traces of hydrogen must therefore be eliminated. EnviCat GP removes these trace impurities to achieve the necessary purity. EnviCat GP catalysts are used to purify CO2 of impurities to minimal (ppb) levels for use in food and beverage applications.

EnviCat NSCR has been developed to remove nitrous oxide (N2O) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from industrial off-gases.It is used in Non-Selective Catalytic Reductions (NSCR) applications such as Nitric Acid plants. The catalyst operates like a three-way catalytic converters: Nitrous oxide (N2O) and nitrogen oxides are reduced by hydrocarbons in the absence of oxygen. This technology is especially useful if the tail-gas contains a broad spectrum of non-methane hydrocarbons, in addition to N2O and NOx, as all will be converted by the catalyst.

AcryloMax™ allows more profitable and efficient production of acrylonitrile (AN), which is an important intermediate in the value chain of plastics and synthetic fibers for the automotive and textile industries. AN is produced from propylene, ammonia and air in contact with a catalyst. The AcryloMax catalyst enables synthesis of acrylonitrile via ammoxidation of propylene in a fluidized bed reactor. Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is also generated as a valuable side product.

FAMAX™ 200 is a next-generation catalyst for methanol to formaldehyde oxidation that is optimized to enhance plant efficiency. The catalyst’s advanced composition and design achieve higher specific formaldehyde production at lower cooling medium temperatures, thus increasing overall plant economy.

EleMax™ catalysts are designed for storing hydrogen from renewable energy sources, such as wind or hydro power. They are used in an innovative technique developed by Clariant’s partner, Hydrogenious Technologies, to transport hydrogen by chemically binding the molecules to Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC). In the method, hydrogenation of the liquid organic hydrocarbon dibenzyltoluene via EleMax H “stores” hydrogen, while its dehydrogenation with EleMax D “releases” hydrogen on demand. This provides the handling flexibility required for widespread roll-out of hydrogen production from renewable power sources (Power-to-Gas, Power-to-X).

FAMAX™ DS is a specially shaped catalyst for methanol to formaldehyde oxidation with superior productivity and profitability. Engravings, on the top and bottom surfaces of the catalyst ring, generate a free path for gas flow. Thus, the pressure drop is reduced significantly.

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is a robust and cost effective technology for reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from industrial off-gases at low to medium temperatures. NOx consists primarily of nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). The largest output of NOx emissions from non-automotive sources emanate from coal fired boilers, especially those in power generation. Petrochemical processes also produce large amounts of NOx, originating from utility boilers, cogeneration units, process heaters, steam methane reformers, ethylene cracking furnaces and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) regeneration units. NOx contributes to the formation of smog, ground level ozone, acid rain, and other hazards. EnviCat NOx facilitates NOx reduction reactions in the presence of oxygen. It uses ammonia (NH3) as a reducing agent to convert NOx pollutants into harmless nitrogen and water. The catalyst has been demonstrated to effectively lower NOx emissions from gas fired exhaust streams.

FAMAX™ catalysts are used for partial oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde in fixed-bed tubular reactors. A broad portfolio of different catalyst types and shapes offer optimum solutions for all plant technologies and operating conditions. FAMAX catalysts are designed with a multi-layer approach tailored to the individual plant conditions. This ensures optimal catalyst activity and maximizes production performance and lifetime of the catalyst.

The EnviCat N2O catalyst removes nitrous oxide (N2O) from the tail gas of nitric acid plants. Nitrous oxide – commonly known as happy gas or laughing gas – is extremely harmful for our climate because of its about 25 times greater longevity in the earth's atmosphere than CO2. The catalyst removes nearly all of the nitrous oxide from the tail gas of nitric acid plants. It also renders innocuous other nitrogen oxides (often called NOx) that represent a considerable pollution threat. The nitrous oxide is converted in two stages: in the first stage, the nitrous oxide is decomposed to oxygen and nitrogen with the aid of the catalyst EnviCat N2O. In the second stage, the nitrogen oxides are mixed with ammonia to produce harmless nitrogen and water. N2O and NOx are reduced in this process by ammonia and/or short-chain alkanes like methane or propane yielding nitrogen as harmless product.

Exolit EP 360 (TP) is a low-viscosity, halogen-free flame retardants based on phosphorus chemistry. Both solutions offer a broad resin compatibility, show no sedimentation and address the customer’s need for solvent free processing.

HYSOPAR™ 7000 is a distillate upgrading catalyst designed for isomerization of C7+ feedstocks which allows cost-effective enhancement of fuel properties, such as knock resistance, cold flow, and vapor pressure. The catalyst can be used to upgrade cold flow properties of hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO), also frequently called diesel or renewable diesel.

The KA series consists of highly specific mesoporous alumosilicates which offer superior mechanical and chemical stability. Thus, they are ideal for use as catalysts and carriers in demanding reaction media, such as in hydrothermal, hydration, oxidation or alkylation reactions.

Our Pentasil (MFI) zeolites are widely used for automotive emission control, industrial off-gas purification, and VOC, NOx and N2O reduction. As process catalysts, they are best suited for fuel upgrading, production of petrochemical intermediates and processing of chemicals. Pentasil zeolites are also ideal for adsorption in odor removal. Clariant's standard powders with Pentasil (MFI) structures are: CZP 27, CZP 30, CZP 90, CZP 200 and CZP 800.

Based on the technique of catalytic oxidation, EnviCat VOC effectively removes harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and carbon monoxide (CO) from industrial off-gases. It can reduce the energy consumption of thermal units by up to 40%. The catalyst is suitable for numerous industries that emit VOCs, such as the chemicals, food, printing, and energy production sectors.

K catalysts are acid-activated bentonites designed for slurry-based reactions. Key parameters of the solid-acid catalysts – such as acidity, porosity, surface area or cation exchange capacity – can be optimized for specific applications. The meso- and macroporous catalysts are based on alumosilicates.

HyFlex™ is a broad range of precious-metal and base-metal catalysts for various hydrogenation reactions, such as production of amines or oxo-alcohol, and high-temperature dehydrogenation of cyclohexanol. They also offer optimal hydrogenation for resin production when combined with NiSat™ catalysts.

Mordenite (MOR) zeolites are widely used in emission control for industrial off-gas purification and VOC reduction. As process catalysts, these zeolites suit a variety of applications, such as fuel upgrading, production of petrochemical intermediates, processing of chemicals, and isomerization of alkanes and aromatics. Clariant's standard powders with Mordenite (MOR) structures are: NaCZM 16, CZM 20 and CZM 40.

At Clariant, we have been developing and manufacturing catalysts to clean exhaust gases from combustion processes since the early 1980s. They are used for engines running on various fuels, such as natural gas, diesel, bio-diesel, LPG, landfill gas, synthetics, dimethyl ether, alcohols, or methane. EnviCat TWC is a three-way catalyst (TWC) for engine emission control. It removes volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the off-gases of stationary engines and gas turbines. The catalyst oxidizes carbon monoxide (CO) and other hydrocarbons (HCs). At the same time, it reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) into CO2, water and nitrogen. It can be used in rich-burn applications with air-fuel-ratio control (lambda control).

HYSOPAR™ 8000 is a distillate upgrading catalyst for isomerization of C7+ feedstocks with high aromatics and naphthenics content, enabling economical enhancement of fuel properties such as knock resistance, cold flow and vapor pressure. It is optimized for upgrading specialty lubricants and solvents.

Faujasite (FAU, LiLSX) zeolites are commonly used for emission control in industrial off-gas purification. As process catalysts, they are suitable for fuel upgrading and air liquefaction. The Faujasite structure is also ideal for adsorption in odor removal, active carbon replacement and hydrocarbon adsorption heat management. Clariant’s standard zeolite powder with the Faujasite (FAU, LiLSX) structure type is LiCZF 2.

HYSOPAR™ 6000 is a platinum-promoted zeolite-based upgrading catalyst for isomerization of C5 and C6 naphtha feedstocks which enables cost-effective octane enhancement in fuel. The higher density of the catalyst’s active sites increases conversion even with limited reactor volume.

EnviCat™ DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) catalysts greatly reduce emissions of Particulate Matter, CO and hydrocarbons (HC). The catalyzed wall-flow filters offer efficient emission control at low regeneration temperatures. Hard-rock and base-metal mines sensitive to NO2 – in particular underground mines – must control vehicle emissions. Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) provide a primary means for the removal of toxic particulate matter, while maintaining low emissions of poisonous NO2. The lower the temperature the DPF regenerates at, the better its overall performance. However, many passive emission control systems require high concentrations of NO2 or high exhaust temperatures to regenerate. Clariant offers a passively regenerating DPF that works across a very broad temperature range.

Clariant’s innovative zeolite powder with the Chabazite structure type is CZC (TiAPSO-34).

Due to the hazardous classification of xanthate collectors and difficulties with storage, handling and disposal, sulfide mining companies are facing increasingly difficult xanthate logistics challenges. Through collaboration with customers, Clariant developed alternatives with high copper flotation performance and safer handling and disposal solution for mines, lowering capital expenditure and providing a longer shelf life than solid xanthate. HOSTAFLOT™ 7257 Xanthate Replacement collector allows operators to discontinue the use of sodium isopropyl xanthate and potassium amyl xanthate.

The zeolites are also suitable for adsorption purposes, such as odor removal and active carbon replacement. Clariant's standard zeolite powders with the Beta structure type are CZB 25 (BEA 25), CZB 30 (BEA 30), and CZB 150 (BEA 150).

HYDEX™ G is a distillate upgrading catalyst used to greatly improve cold flow properties of high-sulfur middle distillates, ranging from kerosene to heavy diesel, via selective mild hydrocracking of long-chain normal paraffins. The zeolite-based catalyst is extremely robust and fully regenerable.

Zeotypes are alumon-silicate-phosphate containing crystals. Their unique structures consist of well-defined channels and pores. These channels make such materials an excellent choice for a variety of applications in catalysis and adsorption depending upon needs. Our AIPO (AEL) zeolites are extensively used as process catalysts in fuel upgrading and dewaxing processes. DSM 11 is a catalyst for the removal of radioactive inorganic iodine in nuclear power plants, nuclear waste reprocessing plants, and off-gas and air monitoring systems. It has been designed for the selective absorption of inorganic iodine in the presence of organic iodine compounds such as methyl iodine. In combination with Clariant's AC 6120 – which absorbs both iodine bound in organic compounds and inorganic iodine – complete iodine-balances can be generated.

AC 6120 catalysts are designed for the removal of radioactive inorganic iodine as well as iodine bound in organic compounds such as methyl iodine (iodomethane). The adsorbers are commonly used in nuclear power plants, nuclear waste reprocessing plants, and nuclear off-gas or air monitoring systems.

ActiSorb™ GP 110 is specifically tailored to remove sulfur from wet hydrocarbon gas streams operating at ambient temperatures. The adsorbent’s accessible copper formulation ensures excellent sulfur adsorption capacity, while maintaining its physical characteristics throughout its use.

ActiSorb G 1 is a copper promoted zinc oxide used for the purification of natural gas containing low concentrations of total sulphur. Simultaneous hydrosulphurisation and H2S pick-up is a feature unique to ActiSorb G 1. Even when saturated it fully retains its hydrogenation capabilities.

ActiSorb™ GP 101 is a sulfur adsorbent used for purification of hydrocarbon gas streams containing hydrogen sulfide. It is formed from high-grade iron oxide by a proprietary process that creates a high surface area. It is ideal for H2S removal in biogas, natural gas, and streams high in CO and CO2.

ActiSorb™ GP 102 is a non-regenerable product for sulfur removal in hydrocarbon gas streams. The iron oxide material is engineered for specific pore size distribution to incorporate micro, meso, and macropores in an open structure that chemically bonds with sulfur and can have a pick-up capacity near theoretical limits that allow for longer cycle lengths and favorable cost of ownership. This results in a high removal capacity, which significantly improves processing cost efficiency. ActiSorb™ GP 102 delivers this high performance at ambient temperatures, which helps keep energy costs low.

Exolit OP 1240 Terra is a flame retardant based on an organic aluminum phosphinate which is a thermally stable white solid without any hazard classification or labeling. It can be easily compounded into polyesters and subsequently processed again to manufacture flame retarded parts used in consumer or industrial products. The product is non-hygroscopic and it is insoluble in water and organic solvents. Exolit OP 1240 Terra is chemicially and from its composition equivalent to Exolit OP 1240 but comes with a mass balance certificate as for its production, renewable based Ethylene was sourced. Therefore, we assume that for Exolit OP Terra products no additional performance testing and qualification compared to the standard grade are necessary. Clariant’s Exolit OP flame retardants for polyamides are all based on aluminum diethyl-phosphinate (= DEPAL). The pure substance DEPAL is sold as Exolit OP 1230 and in combination with synergists as Exolit OP 13xx & Exolit OP 14xx types. Exolit OP 1230 is the first non-halogenated flame retardant which can withstand the demanding requirements of this high end segment of engineering plastics. PolyMax™ 600 olefin polymerization catalysts allow sustainable, robust polypropylene production at significantly lower operating costs. Exolit OP 1322 is a non-halogenated flame retardant based on organic phosphinates. The product achieves its flame retardant effect through intumescence and gas phase activity. The thermoplastic polymer with Exolit OP 1322 foams and crosslinks on exposure to flame and forms a stable char at the surface acting as a barrier. The protective layer provides a heat-insulating effect, reduces oxygen access and prevents dripping of molten polymer. Exolit OP 1322 is a white powder. Hostagliss PA 165 is a polar polymer with multiple functional groups, exhibiting a high affinity to metal surfaces. Despite its fully saturated structure (contains no unsaturated C=C bonds) it remains liquid and pourable down to temperatures of less than -20°C. Hostagliss PA 165 has good lubricity and anti-wear properties. Therefore, it is used as a component for non-water miscible metal working fluids, such as cutting- or deep drawing oils. Other applications are gear/engine oils and greases. Hostagliss PA 165 can also be used as an additive for emulsifiable metal working fluids to improve anti wear properties.

Hostapur™ CW is an easy water dispersable and highly stable concentrate association of carnauba wax and emulsifiers produced with an advancedtechnology process that provides a product with great efficiency, performance and liquid aspect. Hostapur™ CW allows the cold process manufacturing of emulsions for household’s polishers.

Hostapur CW-C is recommended for maintaining and protecting all types of surfaces, for coated and uncoated surfaces and also for plastics. It is possible to combine the product with other wax emulsions (beeswax, montan ester, paraffin, and PE wax), in order to increase the performance of the care product formulation.

Hostaphat™ OPS 75 E is used as a solubilizier or hydrotrope for liquid cleaning agents to improve the compatibility of electrolytes, polymers and anionic or nonionic surfactants. For the neutralisation and adjustment of the pH value, it is recommended to use NaOH or suitable amines.

Genapol PF 20 is used as nonionic emulsifier for the emulsion polymerization of monomers like acrylates, styrene-acrylates and vinyl acetate.

Genapol O 100 is an alcohol ethoxylate based on naturally derived fatty alcohol. It is an adjuvant and emulsifier used in crop protection applications.

Genapol PN 30 is a EO/PO block copolymer resistant against water hardness, metal salts, acids and alkalis in practice-orientated concentrations. As non-ionic surfactant it can be used in combination with other non-ionic compounds and with anionic and cationic substances. Because of its interfacial activity and low foaming behaviour Genapol PN 30 is especially suitable for the manufacture of low foaming cleaners.

Genapol™ T 800 is used as an intermediate for the spray – cooling of powder.

Genapol PF 40 is used as nonionic emulsifier for the emulsion polymerization of monomers like acrylates, styrene-acrylates and vinyl acetate.

When developing products for institutional and industrial cleaning, or products for use in dishwashing machines, foam can be a mere nuisance or the main reason for a factory to interrupt operations. Genapol PF20 SL is polyglycol based, being a nonionic surfactant with reducing surface tension properties, acting as an excellent anti-foamer and helping to solve issues associated with that.

Emulsogen ED 236 is used as a wetting and dispersing agent for coatings and construction applications. It improves the dispersing of filler pigments and functions as a compatibilizer for colored pigments in waterborne coatings.

This product is also available as Aristocare Smart AP, a version tailored specifically to the requirements of North America.

Toluene methylation is an effective and economical solution for maximizing paraxylene (PX) yields by adding a methyl group to the aromatics ring from low-cost methanol. Clariant’s TransMax™ 100 catalyst series allows cost-effective production of PX, without forming benzene as a by-product. By adding methyl groups to the aromatic ring, toluene methylation eliminates the methyl group shortage to yield more xylene over benzene. TransMax 100 catalysts also minimize side reactions typically occurring in toluene methylation, in particular the formation of light hydrocarbons, which is the primary cause for coking. Heavier aromatics are also formed after separation, and are a valuable feedstock for conversion to more xylenes in the transalkylation unit, as the C9+ fraction contains a major portion of trimethylbenzene (TMB).

Dispersogen PA 45 is a highly effective and low foaming dispersing agent for inorganic pigments such as titanium dioxide and fillers. Dispersogen PA 45 is suitable for pigment slurries and waterborne paint formulations with high pigment content and low viscosity. General recommendation of dosage is 0.3-1.0% w/w on paint formulation.

ISOXYL™ EBI series catalyst are optimized for the isomerization of xylenes to an equilibrium mixture, while converting ethylbenzene to additional xylenes (rather than dealkylation). This ensures maximum feed utilization without creating benzene as a by-product. Thanks to an optimum balance between the zeolite’s protonic sites and the hydrogenation power of the noble metal function, the catalysts offer excellent selectivity for high conversion of ethylbenzene to paraxylene (PX). The former property reduces hydraulic load on the paraxylene separation section, while the latter improves plant economics by preserving aromatic rings. ISOXYL EBI catalysts are designed for convenient use as a drop-in replacement in existing units. Producers also benefit from the catalysts’ superior stability, extended service life, and simple regeneration via carbon burn-off.

Genamin™ MTT is an alkaline pH neutralizing agent for low odor, waterborne paints, and emulsion polymerization. It is a cost-effective replacement for aminomethyl propanol. It can also be used as an alternative to ammonia, offering better performance in terms of pH stability, low odor, stable viscosity and wetting of pigments & fillers. The dosage recommendation (in supply form) is 0.1% - 03%.

Genamin NT 018 is a cost-effective pH neutralizer blend that exhibits minimal yellowing compared to other commonly-available amines and amino alcohols. When incorporated into paint formulations, it maintains stability without negatively impacting viscosity or color strength during storage. Furthermore, Genamin NT 018 functions as an effective co-dispersant, enhancing color strength in paints. The dosage recommendation (in supply form) is 0.1% - 03%.

CalmYang™ Wax is an active ingredient with strong anti-irritation and soothing properties, made from 7 plant extracts known for their soothing actions: chamomile, licorice, centella, rosemary, Baikal skullcap, tea and Japanese knotweed.

Genamin A 016 is a cost-effective pH neutralizing agent for waterborne paints and emulsion polymerization. It is a suitable replacement for ammonia and other neutralizing agents such as aminomethyl propanol. Genamin A 016 meets all performance parameters in terms of pH stability, low odor, freeze-thaw stability, controlled color properties, controlled gloss and opacity, stable viscosity and scrub resistance. The dosage recommendation (in supply form) is 0.1% - 03%.

H2Max™ catalysts are optimized for the purification of terephthalic acid (PTA) to remove impurities, such as 4-carboxybenzaldehyde (4-CBA). The process involves hydrogenation of colored by-products to water-soluble, colorless compounds in a fixed bed reactor. Thanks to the advanced design of our palladium-based catalysts, they ensure highly efficient purification of terephthalic acid, with 4-CBA content typically reduced to less than 20 ppm. The H2Max series is also a more economical solution, as it demonstrates significantly lower loss of costly palladium during operation compared to state-of-the-art catalysts. Glucotain Sense is a powerful sensory additive that adds a deep caring after-feel to rinse-off formulations. It is a mild sugar surfactant with refatting effects, it is non-tropical sourced, based on sunflower oil and sugar.

Emulsogen TS 100 is a nonionic wetting agent for use as compatibilizer in waterborne high PVC paints, as well as in waterborne and solvent-borne low PVC lacquers. The general dosage (supply form) is 0.5-1.0% in emulsion paints, 1.0-1.5% in acrylic lacquers, and 0.25-1.0% in alkyd lacquers. When used during the premixing phase in the production of waterborne emulsion paints, Emulsogen TS 100 also acts as a process aid and helps to reduce the grinding time by faster desagglomeration of TiO2 and fillers. This is especially of interest in areas of hard water. The general dosage recommendation (supply form) for this purpose is 0.24%.

CATADIENE™ is a high-performance catalyst for selective dehydrogenation and dealkylation of hydrocarbons. Based on the Houdry process of catalytic cracking, CATADIENE technology and catalysts are used in butane-to-butadiene and isopentane-to-isoprene petrochemical processes. The reliable, proven process operates at vacuum conditions and lower reactor temperatures to maximize conversion of n-butane to n-butylenes and butadiene while minimizing costs. AddWorks PKG 190 is a Clariant proprietary vegetable based antistatic composition for polyolefin based flexible packaging films. It provides excellent long term antistatic performance in terms of surface resistivity and static decay times. AddWorks PKG 190 also maintains high optical film quality level making it a preferred antistatic for transparent printable films.
