These so-called terephthalamate greases have relatively high drop points, very good water stability and low penetration values.     Hostagliss PA 165 is a polar polymer with multiple functional groups, exhibiting a high affinity to metal surfaces. Despite its fully saturated structure (contains no unsaturated C=C bonds) it remains liquid and pourable down to temperatures of less than -20°C. Hostagliss PA 165 has good lubricity and anti-wear properties. Therefore, it is used as a component for non-water miscible metal working fluids, such as cutting- or deep drawing oils. Clariant’s Exolit OP flame retardants for polyamides are all based on aluminum diethyl-phosphinate (= DEPAL). The pure substance DEPAL is sold as Exolit OP 1230 and in combination with synergists as Exolit OP 13xx & Exolit OP 14xx types.     EnviCat™ DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) catalysts greatly reduce emissions of Particulate Matter, CO and hydrocarbons (HC). The catalyzed wall-flow filters offer efficient emission control at low regeneration temperatures. Hard-rock and base-metal mines sensitive to NO2 – in particular underground mines – must control vehicle emissions. Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) provide a primary means for the removal of toxic particulate matter, while maintaining low emissions of poisonous NO2. The lower the temperature the DPF regenerates at, the better its overall performance. However, many passive emission control systems require high concentrations of NO2 or high exhaust temperatures to regenerate. Clariant offers a passively regenerating DPF that works across a very broad temperature range.

    The EnviCat N2O catalyst removes nitrous oxide (N2O) from the tail gas of nitric acid plants. Nitrous oxide – commonly known as happy gas or laughing gas – is extremely harmful for our climate because of its about 25 times greater longevity in the earth's atmosphere than CO2. The catalyst removes nearly all of the nitrous oxide from the tail gas of nitric acid plants. It also renders innocuous other nitrogen oxides (often called NOx) that represent a considerable pollution threat. The nitrous oxide is converted in two stages: in the first stage, the nitrous oxide is decomposed to oxygen and nitrogen with the aid of the catalyst EnviCat N2O. In the second stage, the nitrogen oxides are mixed with ammonia to produce harmless nitrogen and water. N2O and NOx are reduced in this process by ammonia and/or short-chain alkanes like methane or propane yielding nitrogen as harmless product.

    Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is a robust and cost effective technology for reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from industrial off-gases at low to medium temperatures. NOx consists primarily of nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). The largest output of NOx emissions from non-automotive sources emanate from coal fired boilers, especially those in power generation. Petrochemical processes also produce large amounts of NOx, originating from utility boilers, cogeneration units, process heaters, steam methane reformers, ethylene cracking furnaces and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) regeneration units. NOx contributes to the formation of smog, ground level ozone, acid rain, and other hazards. EnviCat NOx facilitates NOx reduction reactions in the presence of oxygen. It uses ammonia (NH3) as a reducing agent to convert NOx pollutants into harmless nitrogen and water. The catalyst has been demonstrated to effectively lower NOx emissions from gas fired exhaust streams.

EnviCat TWC is a three-way catalyst (TWC) for engine emission control. It removes volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the off-gases of stationary engines and gas turbines. The catalyst oxidizes carbon monoxide (CO) and other hydrocarbons (HCs). At the same time, it reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) into CO2, water and nitrogen. It can be used in rich-burn applications with air-fuel-ratio control (lambda control).

    EnviCat GP catalysts address the high quality demands of technical gases, reducing the level of impurities to minimal levels. The catalyst effectively purifies carbon dioxide (CO2), which is used in the production of urea (CH4N2O): After the steam reforming process, which produces hydrogen from a hydrocarbon stream, the CO2 is separated. This CO2 must be purified: impurities such as hydrogen (H2), hydrocarbons (HCs), and carbon monoxide (CO) need to be removed so it can be reused for the urea synthesis process. EnviCat GP also purifies oxygen (O2) which has been produced via electrolysis: In a process called electrolysis, water (H2O) is decomposed into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) by passing an electric current. High-purity oxygen is required for many chemical processes. Any remaining traces of hydrogen must therefore be eliminated. EnviCat GP removes these trace impurities to achieve the necessary purity. EnviCat GP catalysts are used to purify CO2 of impurities to minimal (ppb) levels for use in food and beverage applications.
